[history]
This is the informed opinion of Washington Democrat Norman Dicks, just back from visiting Iraq, as expressed to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld at a House hearing this week on the Bush Administration's request for $87 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan. Given most reporting on these subjects of late, his optimism struck us as news.

This report by a renegade Democrat isn't going to sit well with his colleagues. Ted Kennedy was heard to say, "We in Congress can do perfectly well without Dicks."

Dicks is a minor deity in his district, so Teddy can have another cocktail.
Dicks is a solid guy in a wacky leftist commie stronghold.

Norm Dicks saying this is news. That's only slightly less shocking than hearing it from Bernard Sanders.

Thank you for the ping and the post! We should require all House and Senate members to actually spend time in Iraq - with a Soldier and a victim of Saddam as tour guides - then let them face the waiting accomplice reporters and condemn the work of this awesome military and deny them needed funds.
And Kansan Todd Tiahrt told the following story: "A week ago on Tuesday, as I was coming into the Capitol, I heard an ABC News report on the radio on Iraq. The news radio report said there was chaos in the streets, there was limited water, sporadic power -- the criminals ran in the streets and the Iraqis resented our presence. In my trip over the weekend I found that to be totally false."
Quagmire-free, ping!

This article summarizes what I've read in links to local papers in these congressman's districts - they've come back saying we're not hearing the truth. None of the national media are carrying any of those comments. Too bad it takes an editorial to get it into a national paper.

NO coverage. None.
And, I bet the Dems in this story are in deep doo-doo.
They have left the reservation.
They are not on message.
They are traitors to the party.
But... they are doing the right thing for their country, and should be thanked for that!
