[history]
October 3, 2003 -- THE current furor over who, if anyone, in the White House leaked anything about Joe Wilson's wife and whether that leak, if it occurred, constitutes a crime is off the mark.
My concern is about something far more ominous. It is what I see to be a systematic pattern of conduct being carried out by elements within the Central Intelligence Agency constituting a virtual covert operation against the Bush White House - a covert operation designed to protect the spy agency's turf and deflect charges of incompetence.

They need to haul (Wilson's) "frog-marching" behind into a hearing and
put the man under "oath", about what he knew and when he knew it. Heheh. Wadda ya know. A reversal of fortune.

Mr. Wilson also said the he didn't know who it was that he talked to that sent him to Africa and would not recognize them if he met them on the street. Talk about spooks.
To: Just mythoughts
The statement I found said that Wilson didn't know them very well. And considering he sat and talked to them for a couple of hours I don't know how he can suggest he wouldn't recognize them again.

Well Mr. Wilson has said very little (except that he is a KERRY for president contributor and another un-named doner), that gives him credibility.
That is the one thing that is so strange about this thing, are the stupid things that Mr. Wilson has and continues to say.

It was probably Doug Thompson's CIA buddy who talked to Wilson, unless Wilson was the CIA guy who talked to Doug Thompson.

Let's see what Wilson and his wifey the super-spy have to say under oath. That I can't wait to hear.

Consider that there is a report heard only a bit about it "Porter Goss" former CIA, Congressman from Flordia (R) had some not so nice things to say about the job the CIA has done in keeping this nation protected.
Now keeping this little talked about report out of the public view also seems to be very important and it would lead directly to bj and hillary.

A Republican elected official fighting back. They actually do it quite often. There are just many FReepers here who never catch on that the media (you've heard of them, right?) barely acknowledges their efforts, or even - shocking! - twists their words.

perhaps the time has come for some heads to rollIt came and went long ago.
Even if Bush wanted to fire Tenet, he'd be ill-advised to do it now.
If the media are drooling over the prospect of another 'Watergate' now, it doesn't take much to imagine what they'd do with Tenet's firing.
Think 'Archibald Cox.'
To: Miss Marple
The point is, Bush didn't. Tenet could have been replaced, but wasn't. Why? Two wings of the same bird of prey?

Sorry, I do not, and not sure it has been made public, just remembered about a week or two ago, before all this theater, him on the tube saying something.
Funny how that up until now really hadn't thought about the report of "HOW WE GOT IN THIS MESS" investigation was being discussed in past couple of weeks.
I will do some looking to see if the report was made public, but not sure it was.

Kattracks:
Great post. It mirrors my first thoughts when I initially came across the Wilson allegation and I applaud Rep. King for having the guts to pen them. I suppose he's carrying administration water here, but it still seems a courageous endeavor. Making enemies at the CIA cannot be riskless, especially for an inside the beltway type like Peter.
I lost some respect for King when he spent so much face time defending Himself during the impeachment debates. Looking back, perhaps he was right and I was wrong.
Rep. King, oh great defender of the one Irish Nation, all is forgiven.

Sorry did not intend to post twice.

When Clinton came into office he had political appointees everywhere as usual but then he did something that isn't normally done -- he started making them civil/foreign service over time which have left a huge number of them in DoD, State (really bad there because they were made foreign service officers), CIA, and other agencies.
The odd part of all of that is that they convinced Linda Tripp to give up a civil service appointment to become a political appointee which in the end cost her a job at DoD.
Don't know if anyone has an idea of the numbers of political appointees that became civil service of the eight years. Some of these people never did have the necessary background checks as Clinton waived those if you remember!
Compounding everything was the Florida fiasco along with the DemocRATs taking their good old time approving appointees. DOJ was hit particularly hard by all of this as Attorney General Ashcroft for months was without a lot of his political appointees so the Clintonites were filling in for what should have been Bush appointees.
If you ask me, this was all orchestrated by the Clintons to place their people in strategic positions in the Administration to leak and cause trouble to make President Bush a one-term President. The leaking has never been as bad as it is today.
State Department is probably one of the worst. I finally signed up for their email updates because the items leaked about Powell and what he was doing/saying were not the same as the transcripts of what he was saying.
Now I am not sure that CIA may be the worst. Believe that Tenet is an honest man and whatever one wants to think, is probably one of the few people at CIA loyal to the President. Tenet was put at CIA by some Senators more than Clinton and is a protege of President David Boren of OU who is a foreign policy/intelligence advisor to President Bush. The people that work in the departments under Tenet are the problem. Believe he is kept out of the loop like on this yellow cake deal to Niger by individuals who are not loyal to America. They are partisan and put their partisanship above the welfare of the United States. They will leak, do and say anything to take down this Administration IMO. I heard Director Tenet speak at my son's graduation and he has nothing but admiration and respect for both President Bush's. He is in charge of a agency with some rogue individual cells out to destroy him and President Bush and his Administration. CIA has a lot of very good intelligence officers and people and it only takes a small portion to turn it into what we are seeing today.
