Warren Moon Says Limbaugh's "Comments Were Racist", and That He "Has Always Said Racist Things"

Moon said he thought the talk on race and qb's was over when williams won the superbowl. What that was in 1987 what have you done lately?? They do hype a lot in the media. Brooks, Blake, Vick, McNabb, Culpepper, Stewart, King, McNair. How would I know that?

I was a season ticket holder during Moon’s reign. He was a dud. The term dancing feet was invented for him. Every time we got close he choked was fine during his younger years when he could take off, and run when the heat was on. He also had a gun for an arm, but as far as the other attributes of a great QB, check the stats in pressures situations.

BTW, check out the two games with Denver, and dare I say Buffalo? In his defense, The Run and Shoot was a fraud.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. He was accusing the media of basing its opinions based upon race instead of merit.

Oh, I'm not arguing with you there. I was just disputing the notion that he was at ESPN strictly as an opinionless announcer. I believe that he should have made it a conscious decision not to bring up anything related to race or politics. He should have known he was going to be under strict scrutiny. That said, I think this whole thing has been blown up way out of proportion. Nevertheless, he ultimately brought it upon himself. He should have known he was going to be a target.

That's right this America he should have realized as you so rightly have, that free speech on the topic of race is strictly prohibited unless it spouts the liberal line and censored himself accordingly.

OK...we have differing interpretations of what JB said and what he meant. I think JB is a classy guy...but when I said he was that classiest of all the black commentators I'd heard today on this subject, I wasn't really saying he was classy. I've heard some pretty crass garbage today on this subject. It wouldn't take much class to be the classest of that group.

When you're hired by a company, you have to abide by their guidelines, and without knowing the boundaries set by his employer, I would guess he went outside of them. I am commenting here on his comments on a sports show regarding McNabb; why are some people making it out like anyone who disagrees with what rush did in this instance is "liberal"? I didn't know ESPN hired him to carry the conservative banner.

When I heard Rush address this, I heard him say that he had given his comments to the program ahead of time, for the purpose of 'timing' the show. If true, and ESPN had a problem with his statements, they could have told him ahead of the taping to tone it down.

Regardless, wouldn't it have been wiser for ESPN to have someone on the panel debate his statement right then and there, or the following week?

Are football players that sensitive, or is this something else? And if they're not that sensitive, why won't they debate their 'accusers' face to face instead of a back and forth trash talk via a microphone thrust in their face?

Of course, they do. The cast's subject matter, the timings, video support and "throws" are established in a pre-production meeting that occurs the previous day. And it will be formally rehearsed at least once before the director orders a "take".

You can't do a structured TV show otherwise.

What Limbaugh said, and as a matter of course says, was (1) not racist and (2) who cares? People should not be punished for ideas, no matter how much one may dislike them. If the Nation of Islam wants to rant racist tirades on television then let them. Anyone who tries to control that is really insecure and is simply trying to control culture itself. What puzzles me about all the scandals coming out by the hour is the timing. What's going on here? It looks suspicious.

I'm not lapping up anything. Just because we acknowledge that a hypocritical double standard exists, doesn't mean that one willingly walks right into the trap. Rush did that, and should have realized he was going to get stung. Whether he was right or wrong on principle is irrelevant to the predictable fallout from such a statement. If he wanted to keep his "dream job" he should have made a conscious effort not to be controversial in areas of race or politics. Those were the biggest concerns people expressed about his gig at ESPN before it even started.

Because liberals have always injected race into everything, sports and everything else. Now a conservative calls them on it and you jump on and attack him with the liberals.

That's a red herring argument. What is at issue here is not what ESPNs policy is, it's what kind of pressure to adopt certain policies that they have been put under by undemocratic forces who have no right whatsoever to ESPNs private property. If it weren't for the loss of advertising dollars ultimately caused by these undemocratic, propagandistic forces in this country then ESPN would simply follow whatever it's better ratings would dictate, which would simply be free, open speech.

This was my point, my friend. ESPN, and the other guys on the panel, intentional or not, left Rush out there to FRY on his own.

And Rush's statements were no problem until Tuesday. Why?

I remember listening to Rush about 15 years ago when some dolt called in from Atlantic City. This guy tried to get in a black joke but was immediately cut off by Limbaugh. Rush went off for about ten minutes on racism , society and just plain common decency. I don't think I have heard him that angry since that day.
