FYI, Below is a copy of an e-mail sent to Tom McClintock's people this morning. IMPORTANT, "out-of-the-box" strategy to assure conservative win. Thoughts & help to move it along?... Thank you. joralink@hotmail.com
I like Tom... I've contributed to his campaign... I'd love for him to win. But please, help me! I'm terribly wary of the very real risk that our conservative vote is divided allowing bustamante to squeak in &... so long California, it was nice knowin' you. Please, those of you close to Tom...: Is there a possibility that Tom & Arnold can have a man-to-man, heart-to-heart - all cards on the table - meeting & join their campaigns together - the showman & the wizard, united with clear division of responsibility, each doing what they're best @ & enjoy doing most? Clearly Governor Arnold will do well @ what he knows to do best: reading someone else's lines... With all due, sincere, respect! He's a political novice, very accomplished in other spheres but overwhelmingly dependent on the counsel of others in this awesomely complex arena. Why not let those lines be Tom's? Tom, in separating himself from the 'also-rans', has truly earned this position of responsibility & trust.
Seems to me... if Tom can keep his ego out of it in the short-term, he will be positioned to make the long-term contribution he yearns to make, & is uniquely suited to make, for the 'good & welfare' of the 6th largest economy on the planet. The opportunity! The challenge! And, with G-d's help, the ultimate glory of being THE 'linch-pin' member of the A-Team that turns this Great State of California around! Otherwise... how sad: his public service career will have 'terminated' as a '03 footnote in the dustbin of history. If he could & would only be content to be the puppetmaster, pursuing his passion behind the scenes, doing what only he knows how to do! Arnold "breaking tackle" as the front-man - what a partner! - to sell Tom's solutions directly to the public! Otherwise... on his own, how can Tom even dream of getting from A to B with the California legislature?
For Tom to step back & join forces with Arnold [call Tom 1st Deputy Governor, Robin, Tonto, Sancho Panza, whatever, so long as the agenda, division of responsibilities & working relationship is clearly established between the two] would be a wise & visionary move...giving even greater credence to his sagacious solutions to follow... Of dire significance is that then (in the words of e.e. cummings) "one & one's not two [pulling against one another], it's two are halves of one", & the two together can soon settle in & let the good (& fun!) times roll.
Arnold seems to be what sickly California deserves/craves [i.e., entertainment], but you & I know Tom is what California needs to be strong again.
If you can please be sure this message gets to Tom and if he'll be bold to make it happen - perhaps I'm only being selfish, but - it would sure make my decision a no-brainer.
G-d, help us all!

I would agree with that one! I wish I could vote for McClintock.
Given that the polls now indicate that S does not need the help of McC to win, now, the time for McC to get and acceppt such an arrangement has probbly passed. The window of opportunity has probably closed. I would not be surprised if S, after the election and after taking office, may then offer McC a major position in his administration.
