How to Help
Editor's Note: We've had a number of questions about how to send care packages to our troops and have added some links to our link section about that. Sally Vaci sent her care packages through Operation Military Pride. Operation Gratitude is another organization where you can help send care packages, either by donating money (tax deductible), getting items for the wish list, or writing letters. This holiday season, they plan on sending 2000 care packages to our troops throughout the world.
In another vein, Chief Wiggles over in Iraq is doing a toy drive for Iraqi children.

Building Strong Relations
Hello. I received your package today and it is great, I really do appreciate your support while I am over here in Iraq. Things here are going well and the weather is starting to heat up (120) but the wind storms are less frequent. We are still doing our Army mission, but the best thing we are doing is establishing relationships with the Iraqis. Continue reading "Building Strong Relations"

Are We That Different?
I have had contact with Afghanis on more than one occasion and might be able to add something of my own.
It's hard for me to remember dates or even months but specific instances I tend to remember well. I know that the following happened during the summer months of last year because it involved an NCO that has since retired and I remember it being quite warm.

Rebuilding Efforts
Editor's Note: "This soldier agreed to let me tape as he told me some of the stuff he was involved with in Iraq. I asked no questions, just sat and listened as he talked about the things they had been doing to help get Iraq running. This is
exactly as he told me." ~Mary
In Karbala there was no infrastructure. The first thing we wanted to do was restore law and order. We established a police department. Continue reading "Rebuilding Efforts"

Hello from Dogwood, Iraq. I am 30 kilometers from the Baghdad Airport. We make supply delivery runs daily. Our route takes us along narrow roads until we reach the highway. We travel past many small farms of what looks to be very poor people. The homes are made of sand concrete. Most homes look thrown together. Only the well-to-do have bricks. There must be a high rate of crime as every home that can, seems to have bars on their windows and doors.

Courage
Editor's Note: Letter from a soldier in Kuwait in response to his mother, who lives in California. She wrote her son asking how he would feel if she joined other relatives of service members in an anti-war demonstration in Hollywood.
Dear Mom:
It's really your decision to march if you want to or not. You are the one who has to decide if what we are doing out here is right or not. My opinion is not yours. I do, however, have things I would like for you and Grandma and everyone else at home to know.Continue reading "Courage"

Our Real Motivator
Editor's Note: This is an open letter from U.S. Army Maj. Eric Rydbom in Iraq to the First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach in Shoreline, Wash. Rydbom is Deputy Division Engineer of the 4th Infantry Division.
It has been a while since I have written to my friends at First Lutheran Church about what's really going on here in Iraq. The news you watch on TV is exaggerated, sensationalized and selective. Good news doesn't sell.
The stuff you don't hear about on CNN?Continue reading "Our Real Motivator"

A Poem From Josh
"We got a letter from Josh today, if you could call it that, written 3/9. They are hearing about the anti-war protests and he was upset. That's all the letter talked about. He enclosed a poem he and his buddies wrote. He wants us to get it out, let people see how they feel. Any ideas?"Continue reading "A Poem From Josh"

This came across my desk and it seemed a worthy project. They hope to print letters, contacts, etc., from our troops engaged in the War on Terror so our citizens can stay up with what's being accomplished.
I don't know if it's appropriate, but if you think it is or isn't, I'm sure you'll either allow it to remain or not.
If it turns out to be highly appropriate then perhaps you might eventually add it to your links.
Incidentally, I have absolutely nothing to do with the site in any manner whatsoever. I just received an email announcing it.
I searched for its title on the search engine, so if it's a duplicate, then forgive.
