The President had a very busy day. He spoke at a signing ceremony for the first Homeland Security funding bill (for 2004); met with White House General Counsel Alberto R. Gonzales, Chief of Staff Andrew Card, and Homeland Security Advisor John Gordon; Pakistan's Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who expressed cooperation in the the war on terrorism and a mutual desire to deepen bilateral relations; and NASA administrators, and space crew, the latter being members of the International Space Station crew 6.
He met with Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe in the Oval Office to discuss security issues, and also toured a Davenport, Iowa, Sears manufacturing plant that makes farm equipment seats.
Laura Bush gave television and press interviews; spoke at a book festival organized by Mrs. Putin that was modeled on Mrs. Bush's book fairs in the US; and went to the Bolshoi Theater with Mrs. Putin, Mrs. Kocharian of Armenia, and Mrs. Pyruanov of Bulgaria, to see Don Quixote.

Thanks to you for the Dose, an oasis which refreshes mightily.

Bush shakes hands with Chairman Michael Powell as Rep. Billy Tauzin(R-LA) (L), and Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) (R), look on after Bush signed do-not-call legislation September 29, 2003 at the White House. A U.S. appeals court on Oct. 1 considered whether to let the 'do not call' registry take effect while it weighs a challenge from the telemarketers who say the list would violate their free-speech rights
