WHICH MCCLINTOCK TO BELIEVE? TOM PROMISED HE WOULDN'T BE A SPOILER
KFI 640

On today's RECALL CENTRAL on KFI 640, they had the head of the "Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County. He stated that Tom McClintock had assured him that he would not stay in the race to play spoiler if it looked like he couldn't win. He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory.
Other Cal GOP leaders were quoted as saying the same.
And yet, McClintock has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end.
So, the question is ...
Which McClintock do we believe?

[Arnold is already choosing Democrats for campaign advisers.]
Your answer is stricken as nonresponsive.
What could be more relevant to the question of whether he'll appoint Democrats if he becomes governor?

They directly contradicted each other. They both can't be telling the truth. No they aren't. Nothing Tom has said is in contradiciton. Be careful when you try this at home kids. If you insert YOUR interpretations of what he said, then you could hurt yourself, or at the very least look foolish.

(It's time for Arnold to stop splitting the Republican vote and step aside for the good of the party)

You're not getting rid of me that easily. I said IF what I've seen from the puritans is conservatism, I'm ashamed to be a conservative. Gladly, the puritans aren't really mainstream conservatives. They're extremists who equate conservatism with being strident, rude, and boorish. I'm sticking around to reclaim the soul of conservatism from these loons.

Abandoning principle and voting on the basis of celebrity drives his opponent's supporters.

You didn't direct that "appointment" question to me. As your own post above indicates at the top, you and I were discussing whether Arnold is (or isn't) a touch to Riordan's right, because (I said) Arnold at least hasn't endorsed Democrats running against Republicans in contested general elections.
Your post about appointments was to another FReeper. But I will say that W and Nixon both had (have) a few Democrats on board, partly to "hear all views" and partly just for tokenism (i.e., they're in minor or "hood ornament" roles). So are they traitors too?

Look for Arnold to pull a Riordan with his appointments if he's elected.

(How ironic is it that Arnold turned out to be the spoiler?)
To: Roscoe
Look for Arnold to pull a Riordan with his appointments if he's elected. There is not a doubt in my mind that will be the case. I would be shocked to find a pro-lifer in the bunch, frankly.

Is this a "man of his word?" It depends on what the meaning of "is" is...

(re Shriver)
Oh, THAT. It's a sound point. It is. BUT, I think it's hugely mitigating that the Shriver contribution was:
- made in a Democratic primary race, NOT in a general election against a Republican; and
- made to a close family member of Mrs. Schwarzenegger, almost certainly (and ONLY) as a favor to her.
Not excusing it, and I don't like it, but hey -- look at all the Kennedys he HASN'T given to, not even "as a favor to her."

Those are several donations by Arnold Schwarzenegger to a leftist Democrat. Imagine that.

Those are several donations by Arnold Schwarzenegger to a leftist Democrat"Several"? I see either one donation printed twice, or two donations on the same date.
Got any more? If not, is two "several"? "Two" is a much shorter word.

None of these witnesses to McClintocks supposed spoiler comment have no evidence...A double negative is a positive so you just stated that "these witnesses" have evidence. Case closed...

He has ya squirming.Funny, and here's me thinking I politely conceded the point while limiting its bite by adding two facts.
I guess to someone like you, that's "squirming."

Nice try. Let me know if you come up with a Democratic candidate whom Schwarzenegger has endorsed. I won't hold my breath waiting. 218 posted on 10/01/2003 7:27 PM EDT by pogo101
