KUWAIT CITY (AP)--Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country, a Kuwaiti newspaper said Wednesday.
The pro-government Al-Siyassah, quoting an unnamed security source, said the suspects had been watched by security since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time." It didn't say when or how the smugglers entered Kuwait or when they were arrested.
The paper said the smugglers might have had accomplices inside Kuwait. It said Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah would hand over the smuggled weapons to an FBI agent at a news conference, but didn't say when.
Government officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
Iraqi Interior Minister Nouri Al-Badran met Tuesday with Sheik Nawwaf and discussed cooperation between the two countries in security matters. His visit is the first by an Iraqi interior minister to Kuwait since 1990.

Notice the number of people trying to verify the story before they support it. Nobody is jumping to support this without backing it up. Some are being cautious. Others are not.
At least we seem to be over the Saddam and/or Bin Laden "about to be captured" one-a-day threads.

I guess we'll have to trash the weapons then. Dump `em in the Gulf?

"....backburner....." Nah. Rush is too busy talking about his football comments to be bothered with this kind of stuff.
To Pete: Thanks for posting this otherwise we'd NEVER hear the news.

I emailed this story to Fox and ask to verify! Nothing yet.
To: mrs tiggywinkle
Perhaps it didn't happen just today. Maybe our chem/bio guys have already called it...? BINGO. The whole reason the RATs upped the ante on the "leaks" was to flood the news in anticipation of some great news from the middle east. (Iraqi schools open, hospitals up and running, and..oh yeah...WMD's!!)
To: mrs tiggywinkle
Yeah, but why wouldn't they explain that? I mean, the story should have said "bad guys were trying to get $60 million" or whatever. It's not standard reporting here, so it makes me suspicious. Plus, if this had happened days ago and the press just found out, there should be plenty of details available. If it was happening right now, then it would make sense.

Arab Times has nothing. Al-Seyassah is in Arabic, and I don't have arabic fonts installed on this computer (As if that would really make that much of a difference).
The link to both is

I'll predict what this turns out to be:
some iraqis claim to have the stuff, they try and sell it based on the claim, and are busted. they have a few empty warheads to "show off", but no material.

That is just where I had gotten to. Al-Seyassah, the source of the story, is indeed in Arabic. I am looking for an online Arabic/English translator. (I used to know where one was).

Can't be. Iraq does not have any WMD (at least according to the democrat party).

That's not funny, man. I'm no ecofreak...but throwing stuff that nasty into the Gulf is pretty vile.
We have a CBW destruction facility on Johnston Island. Let's use it.

Let's see how long PMSNBC,CNN et al. can avoid this story. The big networks will only be interested in the "leak of the CIA agent's name", not any good news like this. If true, there is no doubt who had WMDs.

I plan to wait and see if this has substance.
Taking it is as, it would totally destroy the DEMS attack upon BUSH. (as long as the media publishes it. If not, it's up to us)

So far the news is only a repeating of an Islamic source. No man of reason takes an Islamic's tales as true until closely verified.
