Here is my theory (and hope):

1. I still hope the story is true. The Kuwati paper is the semi-"official" organ of Kuwait. Other media has indicated that it is fairly credible re: govenrmental/intelligence matters.

2. Smuggling typically has two teams: a shipper and a receiver in the destination country.

3. I would assume the destination would be England and the receivers would be terrorist bent on releasing whatnot in the Underground.

4. They have caught the shippers.

5. They hope to still catch the receivers.

6. In hopes to still catch the receivers, the US/UK govs have asked for the media to sit on the story for now, hoping against hope, that the receivers do not access more obscure (i.e., conservative) or remote (hidustan times) media.

That's my version. Or it's bogus.

I did see this story on Dow Jones, myself. They are just a live AP feed, really. I could see how Dow Jones would be overlooked in efforts to shut this story down.

I also noted how the market took a huge bump when the story came out (that's why I looked at the ticker; it was like 158 up Dow).

The bump would be a story, even if the WMD story was bogus, just noting how the market reacted. I mean, there are stories about how false rumors move the market all the time.

But was there anything? Nada?

Remember: the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Something is going on.

I didn't say the story had disappeared from the web site. Only that the Hindustan Times no longer showed it anywhere on their main page, nor the World section page. The article is still there, if you have the URL, but it's hard, if not impossible, to find if you're just following links on their pages.

Another possibility is that this story is disinformation designed to smoke out people involved in hiding or destroying WMD. When they hear a story like this they will react with phone/email "chatter" between themselves: talk such as "who got caught?" and "how did this happen?" This story may be part of an ongoing effort to find people who know the location of WMD.

I found this story, sourced via AP, at two other places, at about the same time as the Hindustan Times: DowJones Newswires and NASDAQ. They, and the report in the Hindustan Times, are all pretty much the same thing, but they all credit AP with the story, not each other or some other news service. This was truly a strange situation for a potentially explosive news story. Wonder if we’ll ever hear what the deal was.

maybe the smugglers were so filthy and smelly that they were considered biohemical weapons?
