In Fresno, Arnold Schwarzenegger fielded a question at a campaign event from a farmer wondering why California needed a state environmental protection agency when the feds already had one. Schwarzenegger had this to say: "What you just talked about is the waste -- overlapping agencies. They cost a fortune." He continued, "We have to strip that down and get rid of some of those agencies."

The Cal EPA and Coastal Commission should be at the top of his list to gut or completely do away with. Next should be Cal OSHA...

No, you're right! There's nothing wrong with the amount of govt waste in the myriad of overlapping and wasteful agencies here in CA! Gray has been right all along and there's simply nothing to this idea that he's been spending too much. (sarcasm alert)

The dems strategy is crystal clear to us these days. They're going to lose and the only way to try and keep that from happening is to jump/spin all over ANYTHING that Arnold says. Did he say that he was going to eliminate any specific agency or did he say that we needed to get rid of some of those agencies that are wasteful/redundant?

THIS is the very reason why Gray wants to debate him. It's all SPIN SPIN SPIN these days...Arnold would be a fool to take Davis on, not because of what would be said IN the debate but what the Dems (and folks like you) will do with the Arnold's words AFTER the debate. If Gray wants a debate, let him take up the challenges from Tom and Darrell Issa??

Folks around here in the belly of the beast have been warning us that, if things went poorly for them, the Dems would take to attacking Arnold in every way possible to avoid shining the light on the reason we're going to boot Gray out of office: His arrogance, poor decision making, in-your-face backoffice deals/favors and complete disregard for the people that he supposedly serves.

We need to give Arnold a chance to work with his team and determine exactly what steps need to be taken. To push him into making those decisions prematurely is as big a mistake as making them on the platform of poor principles that Gray has made us endure for far too long.

We've given Gray his chance and he's blown it BIG TIME.

NEXT!!!!!!!!!

Getting rid of CalEPA is impossible because most all of what EPA used to regulate is now regulated by the individual states. The newish non-point regs never went thru EPA, they went directly to the states.

Arnold's policies on the environment are worse than Gray Davis.

Nonpoint TMDLs are a crooked fantasy, a set of policies that can't work designed to keep bureaucrats employed forever. I've done significant original research on this one Ben. The system is all about controlling land use. It is corrupt.

I realize that yes/no answers are not always possible, but would you consider CA's enviro laws to be more stringent than the US?

I would say that on balance California's laws are both stringent and more destructive to their supposed purposes. The reason is that most of the system has become about controlling who gets to make money; i.e., paying for political favors in order to put your competitors out of business or to manipulate the prices of the final products.

Did you read the thread I put up on Arnold's plan. It's typical.

Pretty sickening, isn't it?

It's the natural outcome of a system that is structurally prone to ineptitude, unaccountability, and corruption. It will likely get worse before it gets better.

As you know, there is an alternative.

If he shuts down Cal EPA, I will admit to being wrong about him.

Unfortunately, I don't suspect his handlers would ever let him try.

He could for the cover as a "conservative" photo-op then just take the people from EPA and send them to the various Water Quality Control Boards or Fish and Game.

Given what he proposes, it sounds likely.
