If it costs both person A and person B $.50 to generate an apple for sale, but person A has to pay an additional $1.00 in taxes, he can't compete with person B. Good. So then let's eliminate the taxes. Yet you want to counter one set of taxes with more taxes/tariffs. That is a horrendous idea that just restricts competition and capital flow even further, as you know being a capitalist.

I agree! That'd be the simplest solution.
Unfortunately, you can NEVER get rid of ALL the taxes because you have to provide for the common defense, etc. So it'll always be an issue until the people of the other country happen to be paying the same taxes (overhead) that you are.
But getting rid of as much of the tax-burden as possible, both on individuals and businesses, would DEFINITELY alleviate the amount of equalizing that the government would have to do to create the level playing field.
