How am I making it my "defense"? I'm talking about my right to be on the road - nay, I'm talking about where the law dictates that I must ride. My defense is following traffic laws and assuming that the drivers I share the road with don't see me. You may practice "defensive driving" I practice "defensive riding." You'd be surprised just how much more awareness of the road, and its occupants, you have when you're not enclosed in steel.

Like I said, it amazes me at how cyclists put the "law" regarding their safety above common sense and the laws of physics.
The law says its illegal to mug or rob someone. Therefore I should be able to walk unmoletsted through the most crime ridden part of town at 1:00am Sat. morning and not worry, the "law" will protect me.
It is illegal to steal cars. Therefore I should be able to go to the grocery store and leave my car unlocked with the engine running and expect it to be there when I get back.
Its called common sense, excercise it.
