I choose to surround myself with a ton of steel when I'm on the road. I have a much better chance of surviving an accident that way. The "Law" is helpful and necesary but making it your only defense is foolish.

How am I making it my "defense"? I'm talking about my right to be on the road - nay, I'm talking about where the law dictates that I must ride. My defense is following traffic laws and assuming that the drivers I share the road with don't see me. You may practice "defensive driving" I practice "defensive riding." You'd be surprised just how much more awareness of the road, and its occupants, you have when you're not enclosed in steel.
