The main thing I have learned from this thread is that bicyclists are very angry people.

That's kinda like the new drivers...they turn the wheel in the direction they are looking. My little critter is going to be on a motorcycle before a bike. Like I was. It helped me in learning to control the bike better. I rode a motorcycle at four and a bike at five. Of course, when I hit puberty, coordination and I had a vast parting of ways. We haven't gotten together since.

Since I don't plan on either one of us weaving all over the road, I don't see why it would be a problem for me. By the way, how close are you comfortable getting to the car in front of you? While you may be joking, the implied threat is upsetting to a cyclist. If you are joking, it's not in the best of taste. If you're not, then I guess we'll eventually see the headlines about the manslaughter trial.
One point I failed to make earlier: I don't believe that cyclists should ride, unless they are couriers or pros, on busy thoroughfares or during peak traffic periods. Personally, I ride very early in the mornings, well before traffic picks up. I also prefer to ride well outside of any city/town.
All I'm asking is a little mutual respect between people sharing the road and following the rules. For the record, I don't believe in the "I'm bigger/smaller than you, so I can do what I want" rule. I believe the aforementioned concept is a clear demonstration of stupidity and the height of inconsideration.

I've read through all of these replies, and am shocked at the barbaric ideas of some people. Everyone knows cyclists are a menace to society. But run over? Shot? I think knifing them would be the limit.

Hatfield-McCoy bump Grab a fence post, hold it tight,
Whomp your partner with all your might.
Hit him in the shin, hit him in the head,
Hit him again, the critter ain't dead.
Wop him low and wop him high,
Stick your finger in his eye.
Pretty little rhythm, pretty little sound,
Bang your heads against the ground.

See my post in #60. I was in a subdivision heading toward a bike trail when I got shot. I'd beat the crap out of those kids had I caught them.

Best athletes? Surely you jestNope, not at all. That is my opinion. Judge it by power output, for example. 500+ watts sustained IS rather impressive...

Can we not be civilized here?

I actually watched the first half of that movie a few months ago. Man, it was so awful I couldn't stop. It seemed they were trying to make it as bad as possible--kind of like a manufactured "cult classic."

If the producers were trying to make it bad, they succeeded. :)

Look, I have nothing against you little spandex pansies if you're willing to keep your feather asses out of my laneYou're talking about rollerblading, yes? Well, most of the serious bladers I come across tend to take up the entire path (you know, like a speed skater). Many times, I've had to slow down and ask to pass (which is fine) and been yelled at. I guess because it breaks their rhythm?

"The main thing I have learned from this thread is that bicyclists are very angry people. "
It comes from people cutting you off at least once a day because you wouldn't ride so close to the curb that you risk running into it...
I ride 100+ miles a week in a park with a one-way two-lane road, one for walkers/bikers and another for cars/bikers. I try hard to stay out of the way of cars, but when they are speeding in the park (25mph limit) I *WILL* move in front of them and make them go the speed limit. If they don't like it, they can stop using the park as a shortcut.
I will also move infront of cars when the walking lane is full of people.
My favorite is people who try to drive around the road IN THE WRONG DIRECTION then get mad when I stop in front of their car and won't let them keep going the wrong way.
To: RoughDobermann
Yeah, all cyclists are wussies. They just happen to be wussies that endure a tremendous amount of pain every time they ride. They are the fittest and, arguably, the "best" atheletes in sport. Of course, a big, burly guy (on rollerskates) like yourself wouldn't know that, would you? Cyclists are certainly the rudest, most arogant and uncivil of all athletes.
No other group of athletes consistently causes traffic jams disrupting thousands.
If y'all want to get the streets closed once a year like runners, so you can have a race, fine, but otherwise bikes need to be made illegal on public streets, unless the rider can demonstrate an ability to accelerate with the traffic and keep up.
