It comes from people cutting you off at least once a day because you wouldn't ride so close to the curb that you risk running into it...

I ride 100+ miles a week in a park with a one-way two-lane road, one for walkers/bikers and another for cars/bikers. I try hard to stay out of the way of cars, but when they are speeding in the park (25mph limit) I *WILL* move in front of them and make them go the speed limit. If they don't like it, they can stop using the park as a shortcut.

I will also move infront of cars when the walking lane is full of people.

My favorite is people who try to drive around the road IN THE WRONG DIRECTION then get mad when I stop in front of their car and won't let them keep going the wrong way.
