Call him Al Gore, media baron. The former vice president is close to striking a $70 million deal to acquire Newsworld International, a tiny cable network owned by French media giant Vivendi Universal, media sources said.
Gore and his backers want to turn the digital channel into a liberal-leaning network. His partners include ex-Democratic fund-raiser Joel Hyatt and media investment banker Steve Rattner, who's said to be lining up financing.
Carried in just 20 million homes, NWI airs newscasts from around the world, including reports from the Canadian Broadcasting Co. The net is part of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, the show biz empire that's about to be acquired by NBC.
Reps for Vivendi and Gore declined to comment.

I knew I smelled a Ratner! LOL......
he did it for his sister so the JAP RAT could have a real job.
CNN will have to split their share with these guys. They'll each have 50, 000 viewers.

Wow. I can't wait for his network to go on the air. This will cure my insomnia for sure!
Hey Al, can you put Al Franken on the air too?? Right about bedtime would be good... unless you can stay up that late of course...

From your article.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
CABLE NETWORK DEAL
Separately, a source familiar with the situation confirmed a Wall Street Journal report that Vivendi was near a deal to sell its Newsworld International network to a group of investors led by former U.S. vice president Al Gore (news -web sites) for $70 million.
Vivendi left the cable network out of the NBC deal.
Vivendi declined to comment. Vivendi shares closed 3.8 percent up in Paris at 15.78 euros.
Paris-based Vivendi has been selling assets to cut debts that threatened to topple the media group just a year ago.

Umn. Looks like this bit referrs to the Gore deal.....and of course the libs would be purchasing assets from the French.

Steve Rattner - isn't he the guy who wanted to make the statue of the three firemen at Ground Zero a multi-cultural revisionist art experience?

Carried by 20 million homes? Where? I've never heard of the network.
I'm sure it goes to all those blue, urban, Gore areas. Just preaching to the nuts in the choir isn't going to do Gore much good.

Aren't the super rich left wing liberals the most vile humans on earth.
This brother sister team is a prime example.
Our Jeff Head beat back the proposal by these left wing POS's with the help of Freepers and others.

"Al Gore doesn't even know how cable TV gets on his television set."
Wouldn't be too sure about that. Maybe he invented cable TV.

The DEMO-RATtners are aptly named.
If the female of the species says that in public, imgaine what she says in private.
These scum-rats have an utter contempt for the rest of us.
And I betcha the phony Rattners spew their "tolerance and compassion." (barf)

Should be fun to see who the Dims put on their dumb shows.
I guesss the Clinton Regulars are lining up: Lanny (smirk) Davis, Paul Giballa, Auntie Janet Reno (she'll be good for a laugh or two), Bobby Torricelli (ugh), Babs Strident, Rosie O' Fatty, Alec Baldwinded, Michael Moorehead.
I predict ratings of minus-20. LOL
