A soldier stands guard Wednesday as Iraqi mothers wait at a school in Baghdad for a ceremony marking the beginning of the new academic year. Children across the city began to arrive at their schools Wednesday to register and, if lucky, receive textbooks. Though new books were promised, many schools have yet to receive them and were distributing last year’s books.

An impromptu line up is formed in order to determine who was the culprit that left the toilet seat up.

Some writing, then 3-hour lunch with daughter and one of the grandkids (I had pancakes! LOL), then some coloring for MoJo (blame her!), soon a nap, and then some more writing. ;)

Busy day!

Kathy in Alaska just called me on her cell phone.
Her work place has a power outage.
She's trying to find out if it's the whole area, or just local.

As I was packing for my business trip, my 3 year old daughter was having a wonderful time playing on the bed. At one point, she said, "Daddy, look at this," and stuck out two of her fingers.

Trying to keep her entertained, I reached out and stuck her tiny fingers in my mouth and said, "Daddy's gonna eat your fingers!" pretending to eat them before I rushed out of the room again.

When I returned, my daughter was standing on the bed staring at her fingers with a devastated look on her face. I said, "What's wrong, honey?"

She replied, "What happened to my booger?"

Something to make you say "Hmmmm....?" (from email)

My Aunt died this past January. Citi Bank billed her for February and March for their monthly service charge on her credit card, and then added late fees and interest on the monthly charge...the balance had been $0.00... now was somewhere around $60.00)

I placed the following phone call to CitiBank:

Me: "I am calling to tell you that she died in January."

CitiBank: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.

Me: Maybe, you should turn it over to collections... "

CitiBank: "Since it is 2 months past due, it already has been."

Me: "So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?"

CitiBank: "Either report her account to the frauds division, or report her to the credit bureau...maybe both!"

Me: "Do you think God will be mad at her?"

CitiBank:"...excuse me ...?"

Me: "Did you just get what I was telling you.... the part about her being dead?"

CitiBank: "Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor!"

(Supervisor gets on the phone)

Me: ''I'm calling to tell you, she died in January."

CitiBank: "The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply."

Me: "You mean you want to collect from her estate?"

CitiBank: ".....(stammer)"

CitiBank: Are you her lawyer?"

Me: "No, I'm her great nephew." (Lawyer info given... )

CitiBank: "Could you fax us a certificate of death?"

Me: "Sure." ( Fax number is given )

( After they get the fax. )

CitiBank: "Our system just isn't setup for death..."

Me: "Oh..."

CitiBank: I don't know what more I can do to help..."

Me: "Well... if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her...I suppose...don't really think she will care...."

CitiBank: "Well...the late fees and charges do still apply."

Me: "'Would you like her new billing address?"

CitiBank: That might help."

Me:" Odessa Memorial Cemetery, Hwy 129" ( plot number given. )

CitiBank: "Sir, that's a cemetery!"

Me: "What do you do with dead people on your planet?!!"

I live in the sticks. Problem is, "u r" literally lives in the sawdust out in the boonies. No cable. (She checked into DSL; that'd only cost her $1 more than what's she's paying for two phone lines and dial-up. We'll see.... Another problem is that she has a shorter attention span than I do -- and a grade school-aged child, so I may not be able to get her to read this much. Now IF I'd tell her that she CAN'T KEEP UP, that might work.) ;)

Ah, yes, spoken like a true big sister!

I understand being in the sticks, and how sloooooooooww dial-up can be.

Let's tell her she can log on, wash a load of laundry, put the dishes in the dishwasher, then come back and read 20 posts, then go to the store and come back and read another 20 posts, then vacuum all the carpets and make the beds and read another 20 posts...

You think she'd be able to keep from strangling you if you told her that?

She having a storm? Any idea what's causing the power outage?

BTW, if you see anything on the news about the silo explosion at the sawmill/lumber yard in Ohio that killed some firemen and injured around a dozen others, New Knoxville is a few miles east of me. (The fire crews that I'd dispatch when I had that job were among the FDs that responded to the fire. Fox News showed some film of the scene earlier. I've done some area news sites searches, but so far they're not naming the second firemen. ... Prayer request for those who lost their lives and were injured, and their families. Thanks.)

No problem...I'm the big brother, I have ample shoulders!

I used to sit and play solitaire while waiting for the Canteen to load on my dial-up connection...
