This smear should drop Bush's credibility with the voters another 10-15 points. A little lower and hillary can jump in the race.

Bite yo tongue!
I don't think people are paying attention yet, and by the time they do, Wilson will have completely destroyed his credibility by his showboating saturation tv antics, his appearances with Democrat senators, and his goofy delight in all the attention.
For a man who's wife has been put in mortal danger, Wilson is having a helluva good time.

"This smear should drop Bush's credibility with the voters another 10-15 points. A little lower and hillary can jump in the race." Perhaps not. After all, with the last few presidential scandals, the harder one side hit on the president, the better his poll numbers got. It drove us nuts during impeachment, but Clinton was loved more by the libs for weathering the storm.
Bush may benefit in the polls if:
- people feel there's no "there". Already Novak and even Time magazine have deflated this balloon from it's full potential. Last year Wilson refered to his wife in Time. Wilson has to be credible for this to work. Unfortunately for the Dems, he has a big mouth.
- People need to understand why they should be outraged, and it's going to be hard to draw them a picture in this case. Back in impeachment people only needed to understand that Clinton lied under oath and obstructed an investigation. They didn't get it. It this case they need to understand why leeking this name is significant, they need to believe it's a retaliation for criticism of the Iraq war, they need to believe the leak comes from the top... etc. Too complex. People aren't going to follow a flowchart to understand the "gotcha"
- If the President shows full co-operation I don't think this will hurt him directly. I think Rove is the real target here anyhow. People trust Bush more than Clinton. They may not like this war, but most people don't think Bush is a habitual liar.

"This smear should drop Bush's credibility with the voters another 10-15 points. A little lower and hillary can jump in the race." The problem is, (It's working!!) people believe this crap. Why do the republicans not fight back? I dont get it...

My thoughts exactly. It wouldn't do for her to enter and the first polls not show them neck in neck. Her scandal problems would look less damaging also.
