Either McClintock or Schwarzenegger Likely Winner in California if Other Dropped Out
With Arnold Schwarzenegger the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial contest, many GOP officials have pressured California State Sen. Tom McClintock to drop out of the race, fearing he will divide the Republican vote and allow Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante to win. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted over the past weekend, shows that McClintock does indeed draw support away from Schwarzenegger, though not enough to deprive the actor of the lead among probable voters. But the poll also shows that if Schwarzenegger were not in the race, McClintock would likely be in first place by a substantial margin, rather than behind Bustamante.

Oh, you know you love it, the last time anyone talked to you was during the Estes Kefauver days.

Besides, I plan on doing some expatriation and hanging out in a country full of living folks...

The thought of you as a dominatrix is enough to turn anyone forever off to sex, or the very concept of life.

Okay... sigh.

I'll just work harder within the GOP... but your thoughts are most tempting and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity the Internet gives us to put it in action.

Dude, move to Costa Rica! If I could find a way to make some dinero there I'd be on that free flight that will be leaving Phoenix every day. (love these flight benefits...)

You know I don't get to Phoenix every week...
I still have to vote in Cali... and have most of my "investments" here as well. But honestly, if things keep going south... Costa Rica is looking good.

Got it. I can't see an easy way of starting something like that from scratch, either. Maybe someday a group with those aims could be prodded into being by a conservative radio commentator with a large audience...

Tamsey, every Freeper here who cares about Illegal Immigration should have full understanding of what their County's policy and programs entail, what they authorize, what they cost and under what legislative or court ordered, publically debated, authority they provide benefits to people not only non-resident in the county, but non-resident in America.

Every one of us should find that information, talk to our County and State reps, our school board reps and get the cost, scope and justification for putting three recently arrived children from Somalia into a neighborhood, Engish speaking grade school or on a medical benefit entitlement. I can't waltz into Ramsey County and be approved for a transportation and housing voucher. I live in a County next door. Why can someone from Thailand, Honduras, Somalia or Lithuania warrant immediate enrollment and State authorization?

I guarantee you, none of the regulars on these "We're being swamped by Manitobans" threads have done ONE LOUSY THING besides grouse at Bush to address their injury and outrage at their local level. Where services are approved, managed and provided. And, funded.

It's not Bush. It's local bureaucrat functionaries, unfettered local Judges and money grubbing/money donating lawyers, immigrant groups, ACLU offices and Democrat/Socialist enablers. Let's figure it out, and get the problem attacked at the source. Why are our property taxes, sales taxes and fees being used to feed, house, school, nurse and support someone fresh off the truck from Iceland or Monaco?

If we have a problem with the Senate management of the nomination filibuster, let's find a powerful way to express ourselves. That is letting the NSRC and George Allen, the RNC, our State GOP Campaign Funding orgs and our political rainmakers know that we want action, our financial support is under temporary torpor, and we want them to let sleepy Senators like Hatch, Specter, Dominici, Stevens and McCain who don't want to upset THEIR wink-wink agendas by engaging in two fisted street fighting with the Democrat termites.

That's the stuff we can do. Firing off angry missives to Bill Frist do nothing. George Allen informing the GOP Senate caucus that the money folks are pissed, and closing their wallets, gets attention. Lisa Murkowski, Ben Campbell and Arlen Specter need to filibuster a PBS/NPR/NEA funding bill, let the people of Russ Feingold, Dick Durbin, Tom Harken, Tom Daschele, Evan Bayh and Barbara Boxer's state know why they are blocking the New England Dairy Compact giveaway that sticks their dairy farmers in the arse.

With the CFR reforms, we individual donors are more important than ever to the National Parties and the individuals seeking re-election. Why let Feingold, Boxer, Daschele, Schumer and the Dem Senators of Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois get away with screwing their farmers over to bribe Teddy, Leahy, Jeffords, Kerrey, Dodd and Reed. Make that a contentious issue, that's how cowardly Democrat Senators abandon the Judge, ANWR and Partial Birth Abortion filibuster nonsense. Make Feingold and Durbin take on Leahy and Kennedy. Or, use that confrontation as a lever to get the Bush nominees through the obstruction and onto the Bench.

Ragging about the gutless GOP Senators on FR is useless. They're on our team, we just don't have enough of them and the old fossils in charge don't like their comfortable pork, regulatory and independent power fiefdoms interrupted or compromised. So, we write Allen, we write Gillespie, we write our state parties and we write to interested parties like Sanford, Murkowski, Thune, Collins and Snowe, Gregg and Sununu ... the folks who need our support in 2004.

That's the kind of stuff we could be cooking up in the FR lab. Not another thread on India's growth in outsourced call center and network management investment, how the Matricula Consular card is a Bush scheme, or why Bush's Roadmap for Peace is causing Israeli's to be killed by homicide bombers.

Nah, it's about layoffs and the GOP and inhuman betrayal. Pffffft. These jerks don't want to achieve conservative victories. They want to blow stuff up. If they'll do it to the GOP, they damn sure will do it to Free Republic as well.

Well, the airline I retired with (I'm only 39!) still allows me to fly them, and they are starting service to San Jose, CR in December, makes the notion of moving there all the more attractive. I'm going to Thailand and Cambodia in November for 2 weeks, its a possibility. I'm thinking of moving for several months to have a midlife crisis and wait for some more job openings, as my job, while well paying, is dull as dirt and about as attactive....

That won't work either and for the same or similar reasons.

The ONLY way, for it to work, has already be stated.

"I think you misinterpreted what I wrote. I said that people are using this poll to say "Vote for McClintock, he can win!", but they are basing it on a hypothetical situation that does not exist. Schwarzenegger nor McClintock will drop out."

What you say is true. It is a hypothetical sistuation. But the dynamics of a Bustamante meltdown (if that is in the process) may significantly change the nature of the conservative vote.

The conservative vote (regardless of party affiliation) will be very strong in this recall election. It may account for up to 50% of the total vote. (Earlier I had predicted over 40% based on a close race in the yes/no portion of the recall - but Davis seems to be imploding too, depressing the liberal vote.) The conservative vote had been breaking for Schwarzenegger by about 6:3 over McClintock. Yet, at the same time many of these conservatives stated that McClintock would be the better Governor. Their rationale for going with Schwarzenegger was that he could beat Bustamante. As Bustamante fades, that Schwarzenegger "soft" support might also begin to fade back to the McClintock column. These are voters who are highly motivated to come to the polls. I am doubtful that enough conservatives will swing back to McClintock, but a McClintock rise in the polls is a natural result of the Davis/Bustamante fold-o.

In the Replacement Election to succeed Davis, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has pulled ahead to a dramatic lead over the large field of candidates with 39.7% of voters indicating support for his candidacy. Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante follows with 23.6%, State Senator Tom McClintock has 12.6%

Fatal exception!

<< FR is what happens when bitter old men get internet access .....

.... They're just anti-everything. They jumped on Buchanan. They jump on McClintock. They'll jump on Tancredo. They love Michael Savage. They jump on immigration. Outsourcing. Whatever suits their bitter indulgance. >>

1. Surely sounds as if you're having a really bad attack of Psychopathological Projection Syndrome -- one of the lunatic left-wing-fringers' "liberalism" psychosis' principle, primary symptoms -- trust I'm mistaken and/or that it's not terminal -- yet;

2. Lumping the trade-Luddite,Buchanan, who gave Clinton viability and thus single-handedly became and remains responsible for the entire Clinton abberration -- and McLintock, who seeks to emulate Buchanan's increasingly-deranged [Advancing Korsakoff's Syndrome is suggested] track record -- with Modern American Hero, Tom Tancredo and/or even with Corageous American Man [And, lest we forget] ENTERTAINER, Michael Savage, is such a leap as to also hint of something else amiss.

Extremism, perhaps?

Costa Rica is a rockin' vacation spot, but it never struck me as a destination to enjoy tropical lifestyle with any economic choices that are First World.

If you're hellbent on relocating, go to Antigua or the Antilles and set up a peer to peer IP telecom, wireless or satellite distribution business that has no taxable origin, final destination, regular path of transit or measurement.

Telephone service, Long distance, wireless, satellite pay per view events, sports broadcasts ... broadband is being stuffed by the RBOCs, Cable and Internet Oligarchies now. The UFC MMA event shouldn't cost $35.00, I should be able to get it via TCP/IP for $14.95, and the UFC would get the same payday.

The NFL, NCAA, Satellite Program Czars like Viewers Choice and DirecTV, broadcast and cable networks and faceless drones shouldn't decide whether I deserve to choose and view just ONE Packer game not all games all season, this band and not that band live in concert, a likely soccer riot in Liverpool, live dance performance programming from Mons Venus or "Get a Life" or "Sledge Hammer" episodes on demand. Sell cigarettes, use Indian casinos as distribution partners. Market asbestos and freon. Drink fruity cocktails, have bikini-clad golddiggers hanging around.

Guys are running gambling books from those places. They're breaking U.S. law. One guy was dumb enough to come back and make a statement. He's going to jail, his pals are going yachting.

50%??? The burgeoning vote that will put Schwarzenegger over the top consists of disaffected young educated techies in Silicon Valley, suburban Riordan/Wilson Republicans, Independents who know the Dems are selling them out to illegals, Unions and environutzoids but are turned off by the Abortion-obsessed chanters and gun loving militiamen they associate with the GOP ... but mostly his surge will come from young apolitical College folk, Warehouse, cashier and waitstaff and cosmotologist and customer service grunts and gruntettes, military folk and legally resident immigrants or native born work a day folk from Mexico and China who Arnold touches as an immigrant who made it. They're not making the poll numbers, they'll come from nowhere because Arnold has rendered this election a statement making event. These same people WILL NOT vote for McClintock in a Senate race against Boxer. They like Arnold, he's honest and he's going to serve their interest even if they're not sure what their interest is.

Unyielding social conservatives are going to sit in their 10% phone booth and compliment themselves and each other for achieving nothing in a principled manner.
