SAM, it opens up a whole Pandora's Box of nightmares. It allows them to legally purchase guns...driver's license, utility bill, and no FBI record...bingo, you're golden.

As the article said, the driver's license is a defacto internal passport, the assumption being that citizenship accrues to the bearer thereof.

This is one of the most damning aspects of a Schwarzenegger governorship. I don't think he has his head glued on properly on this issue. Now, is Bustamante going to be any better? I'm not happy about this.

Here in Texas you don't even need a utility bill. I bought my first gun (12 gauge shotgun) about a month ago, and all I needed was cash, a drivers license, and no FBI record. It may be different for handguns, since due to stupid rules I can't buy one of those until I am 21.

Ok, seriously...the bit about the utility bill, is that most gunstore owners will require a second piece of ID to verify your address. In Texas, unless you live in a city larger than Tyler, most everyone knows you, your family, your family's family...etc.!

A referendum is now underway to stop the law from going into effect. If petitioners can gather 400,000 signatures it will appear on the March 2004 ballot.

I've got a good feeling the voters of California are going to overturn this pandering, un-American legislation. They know bad law when they see it.

Now if we can only bring some democracy to NY and give citizens the right here to vote on ballot propositions.

Matriculas are easily obtained because Mexico has no centralized system to verify the identity of its own citizens.

But even more than that --- they've already discovered these matricula cards being sold out on the streets. In Mexico, bribery and corruption is so engrained, there are probably few of their consulates who wouldn't sell one to anyone if the mordida was high enough.

California continues its slide into third world status with Davis at the helm. The process of legal citizenship is being destroyed. Why should they apply legally when all they have to do is sneak over the border and receive all the benefits of citizenship? Davis and his buddies in Sacramento even want to subsidize tuition for illegal aliens while the citizens continue to pay for their own.

As long as we keep handing out all the freebies, millions upon millions more will come. It's supposed to be against the law to hire illegal aliens, or to aid and abet illegal immigration, but there is still not a peep heard from George W. Bush or anyone in his administration about any of this. Maybe they're thinking that no one will notice the invasion?

The real effect of SB60 is the likelihood that the Illegal Alien issue will come to a head in 2004. Democrat and Republican leaders will be stumbling over themselves to off various Amnesties to Illegal Aliens, to the dismay of the rank-and-file of both parties.

There will be anti-Illegal Alien ballot initiatives on the California and Arizona ballots next year, which will win despite the craven opposition of most elected politicians.

Yet the politicians will likely continue their drive to surrender to Illegals.

It'll be up to the citizenry to see to it that they fail.
