Prop. 54 allows racial classification for medical research, but Benjamin said that provision is not enough. Collecting data on voluntary research subjects would not protect the data collection systems that are currently used and rely on much larger sample groups.

*** SOME PEOPLE ARE NEVER SATISFIED. Know what you do with such people? I ignore them. Their whole motivation is to force their agenda on people by requiring them to racially classify themselves. I wish this were put into law nationwide. My local hospital insisted on recording my 'race' and they only got it half right. IT'S NONE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S DAMNED BUSINESS. This is not about medical research and they damned well know it. It's all about stopping affirmative action, quotas, and all their other feel good liberal programs.

Bringing up medical research is a smokescreen. Like the pro-choicers who bring up rape.

Those who vote for it are minorities who want quotas. It's been good to be a minority in the last 20 years. Why screw up a good thing?

Among those fighting the measure are medical organizations, such as the American Public Health Association (search), the California Academy of Physicians, the California Black Health Network and the California Medical Association.

Hey, here's a solution, Mr. Physician. Pay for your own d@mn research. IT AIN'T THE GOVERNMENT'S JOB!!!

Of the three major candidates, only Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock supports the measure.

But government race monitoring is good for us!

The office of the California Legislative Analyst changed the ballot title for this initiative to "Classification by Race, Ethnicity, Color, or National Origin. Initiative Constitutional Amendment." They claimed that "Racial Privacy Ammendment" was inaccurate and misleading, LOL.

This initiative is going to pass, in spite of the lies being broadcast all over the airwaves by the left. Their favorite lie, supported by former Surgeon General Koop, is that it will interfere with medical research. The following is the relevant section of the amendment and comments by the initiative sponsors:

"PARAGRAPH (f): “Otherwise lawful classification of medical research subjects and patients shall be exempt from this section.”

"Another compelling, commonsensical exemption covers medical research and treatment. Current efforts to identify and treat diseases that afflict one group more than others (e.g., Tay-Sachs and sickle cell anemia) should be allowed to continue. Public health experiments that call for volunteer subjects of a certain racial background should not be prohibited from classifying those individuals for analysis. Similarly, private medical records that identify a patient’s history and risk factors can include race classifications under this RPI exemption."

More info at Racial Privacy.org.

As the post notes, the Field Poll lists the initiative's support at 40% and opposition at 40%. What should also be noted is that the sample was structured to represent all registered voters. Guess who's going to show up on election day, who is energized to cast a ballot and who is starting to feel like their vote doesn't matter and is less likely to show up on election day?
