California Republican Party Leadership Endorses Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor (press release)
CA GOP ^ | Sept.29, 2003 | CA GOP

Burbank, CA. – In an unprecedented move, the California Republican Party’s Board of Directors today unanimously voted to endorse gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger in the October 7 recall election. The vote was announced following a special meeting of the CRP Board in Burbank.

“We are proud to have two extremely competent Republicans on the ballot,” said California Republican Party Chairman Duf Sundheim. “Both would make exceptional governors, but only one can win. It is our hope that Republicans, Democrats and independents who are ready for change unite behind Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Arnold has a proven ability to connect with voters, to solidify the Republican base while reaching out to Democrats and independents, and to excite new voters. It is our hope that Californians who share our concern for the future unite behind Arnold in the final days of this historic election,” continued Sundheim.

“This is an unprecedented vote for our Party, but then, again, this is an unprecedented election. We simply cannot afford to put our future at risk by keeping Gray Davis and Cruz Bustamante in office. With eight days left until the election, I encourage Californians in the strongest possible terms to vote “yes” on the recall and “yes” on Schwarzenegger.”

Today’s endorsement marks the first time that the California Republican Party’s governing board has endorsed a candidate in a contested gubernatorial race.

Shall I feign surprise?

Please do. It would be just as amusing as your feigning a willingness to vote for Arnold "if only he would take _____ position".

I bet all the Rnulled supporters are so happy.

If at first 1 RINO doesn't succeed , try try again.

The Death Knell of the conservative movement under the CAGOP "auspices" and the beginning of a new one is at hand.

Your tax bills will reflect the "change" in governance,, and sadly, I predict there will be little change left in your pockets , but Hey you voted for a Republican after all, Right? so It's Ok.

You know how I know we're right?

The ENTIRE Establishment (including those who I thought would never abandon the cause) is with Mr. S, nothing could speak more loudly.

BTW, another "RINO", Assembly Republican leader Dave Cox also endorsed Arnold today.

In endorsing Schwarzenegger, Cox said; "He is the only candidate for governor who can defeat the Davis-Bustamante machine, which having riddled our state with wasteful spending and imperialistically exiled hundreds of businesses and thousands of jobs to other states, must be defeated."

This is speculation, but my money says that Karl Rove's leading the charge and is controlling the pursestrings here. That's why the establishment that would be expected not to cave, did so.

If Rove tells the RNC to cut funding to California for the state level and congressional races there......people will get scared and cave quickly.

It's the same reason the normally very conservative state party here has opposed the Affirmative Action ballot initative here. "White House orders." was the exact quote.

LOL, the California Republican Party hacks are so scared that Arnold might blow it that they took the "unprecedented" action of endorsing one Republican over another. In this case, they endorsed the Democrat-lite over the conservative (surprise, surprise).

It's one thing to be a rank-and-file surrender monkey, but when the Party leaders reveal themselves to be surrender monkeys, that's pathetic. They should have stuck with precedent.

I do wonder, though, if this action might not actually do more harm than good (for Schwarzenegger). First, it may cause a backlash among McClintock supporters. They may feel like they've been stabbed in the back and many may decide to sit out the election. Second, an official endorsement by the GOP tarnishes Schwarzenegger's "independent moderate" image by placing him squarely in the Republican camp. This may hurt his ability to "reach out" to Democrats and independents, some of whom may get scared off by this "official" GOP endorsement.

Dummies. Don't they know bustamante would be a better choice than Arnold? Ask any TomBot...they'll tell ya!

The intellectual dishonesty of the common TomBot is somewhat amusing. ;-)
