Japanese orgy of 900 angers China

An orgy involving 400 Japanese tourists and 500 Chinese prostitutes triggered a new outpouring of antipathy in China towards its historic rival yesterday.

The Japanese party took over the five-star International Convention Centre Hotel in Zhuhai, on the Pearl River delta near Hong Kong.

The nightclub manager provided girls for their entertainment. Prostitution is technically illegal in China but it has become a growth industry. However, the scale and the involvement of the Japanese has inflamed feelings.

The three-day visit ended on September 18, the anniversary of the Japanese invasion of China in 1931. According to the Beijing Youth Daily, the group's visit was arranged by the hotel's marketing department. When one local asked a Japanese man why he was there, he was told: "We came to play with Chinese girls."

Many Chinese also come to Zhuhai for the same purpose. But the strength of anti-Japanese feeling is such that the incident was viewed as a calculated insult, even though the hotel said arranged prostitution was common.

Hostile comment poured in yesterday to China's websites. "It's a trivial matter for Chinese prostitutes to sell sex, but the key is to look at the intentions of the Japanese devils," said one. "They came on purpose for September 18."

The hotel was closed yesterday while police investigated.

From the encyclopedia link: The cause in each case is a definite specific virus, a microorganism.

Tsk! Tsk! A spirochete is not a virus.

RE: WWIII

I think this time around we'll see the Rape of Nanjing paid back 10-fold in Tokyo.

How does a hotel find 500 hookers?!

I supposed the management knew where to look for street-wokers.

A spirochete is not a virus.

Ah well, I selected the article for it's "period charm".

There's a very tasteless sushi joke in here somewhere...

But by 'tasteless' I know you don't mean 'flavorless,' for that most certainly would NOT be the case.

(Ewww)

I've recently inherited the complete set of the not-so-famous 1953 Britannica (one of two, the other being the 1956 World Book) my Dad bought for us kids. For that matter, I have the World Books too now. Having already purchased a 1986 Britannica for myself slightly used back around 86 or 87, I now have a not-so-big house full of old encyclopedias and Britannica annual supplements.

The one kind of books even Goodwill won't take is encyclopedias.

At least I got the Great Books of the Western World as well.

It's fascinating (and often plain amazing) to go back through old encyclopedias. Without the benefits of modern science, our ancestors nevertheless knew a great deal.

HONG KONG (API)
Hotel Mysteriously Slides Off Its Foundation

Chinese officials are puzzled over how the famous five-star International Convention Centre Hotel in Zhuhai, on the Pearl River delta near Hong Kong suddenly became dislodged from its pilings and ended up in the river.

"Gooey substance," said Gung Ho, as he stooped to examine a viscous fluid on what remained of the building's foundation. "Velly strange."

Structural engineers questioned by this reporter have never heard of a similar occurrence.

"I suspect tellolism," said Fung Goo, Hong Kong police chief.

One cool thing about all those annual supplements is that they preserve the step-wise progression of things. You can look at the 1954 supplement (events of 1953) in the "Electronics" article and read that one of two new memory devices for computers announced that year involved criss-crossing wires and ferromagnetic donut cores. Wow!

Four hundred tourists.
Nine hundred call girls lined up.
Beijing will not be happy.

Notice that even in 1911 (from the link I provided above), medical science understood the need for "purity of essence"...

"...generally acquired as the result of impure sexual intercourse."
