Bruce Herschensohn does ad for Tom McClintock
California Republican Assembly ^ | Sept. 27, 03 | California Republican Assembly

Posted on 09/27/2003 12:40:33 PM PDT by churchillbuff

I just heard a GREAT radio ad supporting Tom McClintock for Governor. It was Bruce Herschensohn - - California's MR. CONSERVATIVE -- speaking from the heart. An announcement said it was co-sponsored by California Republican Assemply, so I went to their web site - - and here's the official announcement of the Herschensohn ad:

CRA LAUNCHES RADIO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT TOM MCCLINTOCK FOR GOVERNOR The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he can’t win.

“If everyone who has said that would vote for him he’d win by a landslide,” Herschensohn says. The spot concludes with an appeal from Herschensohn: “If you think he’s the most qualified candidate, support him. At this point, it doesn’t depend on him, it depends on you.”

McClintock never came out denying it.

In fact, Burton had to come out to correct McClintock's deliberate lie, when McC claimed he "converted"
Burton to a supporter. Burton came out to correct this lie.

Burton had nothing to gain, he just wanted to set the records straight.

Is Issa lying too, when he said that Tom promised him that he won't be a spoiler?

Isn't bruce the guy who lost because of his proclivity to visit "the champagne room" in the local strip clubs?

He also got caught buying porn or something more questionable.
It was a smear campaign, but as I remember he copped to it... and the fundies deserted him.

I did not care at the time.
But, in retrospect, you DO have to question his judgement. He did that stuff WHILE SEEKING office... It was not something from his distant past.

Now that he has come out for McClinton, I think that his "questionable judgement" issue, has been confirmed.

Hershenson's endorsement, is the virtual KISS of death for McC.

Meet Bruce Herschensohn
when he comes to the Nixon Library for the national launch of his next great book, Passport, from Simon & Schuster.

Wednesday, October 15th , 2003
Former United States Information Agency film maker and White House Assistant to President Nixon, Bruce Herschensohn is one of America's most insightful and thoughtful commentators on foreign affairs. He's observed and analyzed America's global involvements for nearly four decades, making detailed notes on historical times, incidents, episodes, people and places.

In Passport, Herschensohn looks at several of the pivotal events of these years -- from the Kennedy/Nixon Presidential campaign to the handover of Hong Kong to the PRC -- through the lives of twelve people, who are fictional but based on people the author knew personally.

It was Bush Sr.'s lousy showing that killed Bruce's campaign.

My only disappointment with the debate is that McClintock didn't pose hard questions like this to Arnold. McClintock pulled his punches, for whatever reason.

I wrote about this last night on another thread. I'd be interested to hear both of your thoughts.

I am just wondering why everyone is so focused on this replacement battle. Neither Tom nor Arnold can win if Grayout wins the recall!

Bruce Hershensohn is an honorable man. That strip club thing was blown out of proportion. He is definitely NOT the type of guy who frequents such places.

As I understand, once he with his wife, and a friend and the friend's wife, went to some place like that, probably that one and only time in his life.

I think Bruce is a really good conservative, but remember, he is in a think tank, he is NOT living in a real world either.

But I do agree that I doubt that Hershensohn's endorsement will do McC any good.

McC really had to search far and wide to find ANYONE to endorse him, since even his close friends, fellow conservatives, have already come out enthusiastically supporting and endorsing Arnold.

Wrong wrong wrong. A Herschensohn endorsement is Grade AAA for conservatives. Top of the line. People who giggle at Simon and Issa salute when they hear Herschensohn's name.

But he is clearly totally deluded and wrong in this instance.

Could it be that you're totally deluded and wrong, or would that be a personal attack for me to say that? Of course, it is not be a personal attack for you to say that of Bruce Herschensohn. Anything said against a conservative who stands for principle is, by definition, not a personal attack -- no matter how insulting it is.

Isn't it interesting how embracing Schwarzenegger as a candidate has made all you people end up despising the most honorable and principled among us?

Rope a dope ambrose....so, all your sound and fury the past month was a prelude to you becoming an even more vociferous supporter of the recall.I detected a change in tone once the debate was over, but that's just me.

At least you woke up.ONE strong Pubby candidate makes the recall a cinch, doesn't it?

Bruce has been nearly invisible since he lost to Boxer, contributing zip -zero - to the national political debate. He'll probably return to the shadows after the election.
