Wiring Blamed in Doctor's Elevator Death (Update)
Charlotte Observer ^ | 09/26/03 | Staff Writer

HOUSTON - Faulty wiring caused a hospital elevator to malfunction, leading to the death of a doctor caught in its closing doors, according to a state report released Thursday.

Dr. Hitoshi Nikaidoh, 35, a surgical resident, died last month after he got on the elevator and the doors suddenly closed, pinning his shoulders. His head was severed when the elevator began to rise.

Ron Steele, Texas' chief elevator inspector, said a single misconnected wire disabled safety systems that would have kept the door from closing and the elevator from ascending. A final report will be issued by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

A maintenance company had been working on the elevator at Christus St. Joseph Hospital for four days before the incident. The victim's family is suing Kone Inc., seeking unspecified damages.

Vice president Mike Lubben said Kone still was reviewing the state report but its own investigation concluded that a wire in an electrical panel was incorrectly connected.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Nikaidoh," Lubben said.

This month, the hospital dismissed Kone from doing its elevator maintenance.

Thank you for your wisdom. I never like starting these discussions because they always end up badly; I am not a good debater. Either you believe or you don't. As simplistic as that sounds, it boils down to that. And I believe.

one less skilled surgeon to ease the suffering here on earth. Hallelujah, or somefink.

boy, you are a charmer - actually, whos to say the accident didnt bring someone to Christ and God - which is everlasting? the Dr's service to the mortal condition or the condition of the believers soul?

I'd gladly give up my life if it meant a brother or sister would come to Christ and be spared an eternity in torment.

aside, do your folks know youre playing with the 'puter?

You would believe in "God" if only "good" things happened (and how would you know in such case)?

Perhaps the Lord's plan is much more complicated than we know or can understand? Please, for you own sake, open your mind and open the Bible.

Dr. Hitoshi Nikaidoh was a great Christian who was on fire for Christ.

He may have been, but he was also drunk on the job, with a blood alcohol level "exceeding .08" at the time he died.

For those who doubt it, here's a link to the story on Channel 2 news, Houston. Or try a Google for doctor elevator alcohol.

He revealed who He is in the Bible.

Aye, there's the rub. The Bible isn't the only holy book with a claim to authenticity. If you'd been born in Gujarat province you'd likely have faith, just not the same instruction manual.

True. But fortunately I was born to parents who believed The Bible. I can't help what others believe. I understand your logic. But you either believe or you don't.

That would be a shame wouldnt it - do you think it weighed in Gods overall judgement of him? - I suspect it did - but I think what over rides is the man professing Christ as his savior. In doing so, when this man judged, the cleansing blood of Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross will wash his sins away and dry his tears, restoring him into a right relationship with God.

The simplistic might say we can always sin, knowing we can clean the slate later - but God knows the heart. A stumble He forgives.

How would you propose weighing the ethereal against the actual? It's not unsimiliar to a game of Let's Make a Deal, with the clergy playing the role of Monty Hall. "Do you want something here, in the real world, or do you want to give me something from here in the real world for what I promise is behind door number 2? One catch, you don't get to see what's behind door number 2 until you die." - aka no refunds...

I'd gladly give up my life if it meant a brother or sister would come to Christ and be spared an eternity in torment.

Why would god torment people?

aside, do your folks know youre playing with the 'puter?

aside, do you think taking digs at me personally distracts from your inability to answer the questions raised?

The Bible isn't the only holy book with a claim to authenticity

Its the only book where the lead character is raised in the flesh and is raised to heaven.

Think about it - He raised others from the dead too - Its documented Lazarus was so dead he stunk - but Christ raised him from the dead and did so for the glory of God.

Christ was sinless - in His heart and His soul - wholly man and wholly the Son of God, God himself, sent so that our relationship with the Father could be restored.

Deny it - but before you do - at least challenge yourself to learn about it

I can be swayed by reason and logic, personal attacks don't go real far though. Do they work on you?

Thats the "faith" part. - Live your life in Gods will and obedience and youll have an assurance that an eternal reward awaits you in the Kingdom (behind door #3 fyi)

Why would god torment people?

Who says He has? - why are you so quick to attribute all that happens to God? - Evil exists to destroy our relationship with the Father. Besides, God is not the author of evil -

aside, do you think taking digs at me personally distracts from your inability to answer the questions raised?

uhh - err I just answered em "sport"

Its the only book where the lead character is raised in the flesh and is raised to heaven.

Can't claim to read them all (there are hundreds afterall) but taking that entirely as fact, what does it matter with regard to determining authenticity to point that out? How does that aspect of the story make it convincing, or at least more convincing, than the other religions?

Think about it - He raised others from the dead too - Its documented Lazarus was so dead he stunk - but Christ raised him from the dead and did so for the glory of God.

Various miracles of all descriptions have been ascribed to god(s) in holy texts. What is distinct about this one? For example, other religions claim eternal life through continual rebirth on earth. But I don't understand why that claim is more or less credible than yours. Indeed, given the demonstrable importance of reproduction to life on this planet, it seems even more plausible.

Deny it - but before you do - at least challenge yourself to learn about it

I have.

I'd encourage you to atleast take a look at the Bible. What makes it different from all other materials that would be termed "religious" is that it's about a relationship between All mighty God, the triune God and each human being God created...It has several different authors from all career types (shepherds to kings, etc) but they amazingly all cover the same theme: God, His plan for us, His execution of that plan, and His constance and neverending love for us and His eternal glory to which whether you want to believe it or not, you will eventually bow down to Him in the end (Phil. 2:11 "that at the Name of Jesus, EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord)

Several plagues come to mind.

why are you so quick to attribute all that happens to God?

I didn't attribute the plagues to him, the people writing the Bible did.
