Actor Willis' $1m Saddam bounty (Go Bruce Go!!)
BBC News | 9/26/03

Posted on 09/26/2003 6:19:10 AM PDT by areafiftyone

Actor Bruce Willis has performed before US soldiers in Telafar, northern Iraq, and offered $1m (£603,000) to the man who captures Saddam Hussein.

"We're here to support you," the star told troops as he sang a set of blues songs with his band, the Accelerator.

"If you catch him, just give me four seconds with Saddam Hussein," he said.

Willis will next fly south to visit US soldiers in Tikrit - Saddam's home town - before performing two concerts for troops in neighbouring Kuwait.

"Somebody that supports the military like he has and that comes to visit soldiers - that's important to us," said Greg Pagan, from 3rd Brigade of the 101st's Airborne Division based at Telafar.

'Thumbs up'

"It's awesome," said commander Col Michael Linnington. "It's great for morale. "He's a macho actor. Soldiers identify with action movies and action actors. He's a guy's guy."

During an interview Willis said: "Peculiar thing back home is that the liberal media was trying to portray it as a bad war.

"But being over here just a couple of days, seeing how well our troops and the allied troops are being received here, (I) think the Iraqi people are happy we're here," the Hollywood star said.

Willis will also visit troops in Kuwait

"Children are being taken care of, starting being inoculated, starting being looked after. Wherever these guys go they get thumbs up. They no longer have to contend with the terrorist leader," Willis said.

But the star later admitted he had not met many Iraqis because he had been travelling the country by helicopter.

Willis, a Republican party supporter, was one of the few celebrities to publicly back the US' stance during the recent war on Iraq, which was led by President Bush.

Willis recently played a US special forces commander sent in to rescue medical staff in war-torn Nigeria in the film Tears of the Sun.

I only knew because he was on one of the late night talk shows (I forget which one) and he sang a song. He's an okay singer.

Willis is hardcore Democrat.

He was with Gray Davis the other day fighting against the recall.

That'd sure be an interesting turn of events, given that we're talking about the guy who proclaimed that "Anyone who votes for Gore is a (expletive deleted) idiot!" (or similar words to that effect). Got a link to a news story on this?

Heck, is what Bruce Willis did LEGAL?

And is it ENFORCEABLE as a contract? I believe yes, that if he rufesed to pay, the captor would have a solid case, since he would have arguably relied to his detriment on the offer. Of course, Willis (if he wanted to avoid paying) could claim that the captor's detrimental reliance was not real consideration, because the soldier was performing a duty he already had, and would have done it regradless.

Being involved with your kids and having a good relationship with your ex is one thing. Taking the kids on a date with the ex and her punk boyfriend and sit behind them while they schmooze for the paparazzi is quite another.

It's creepy, I was disappointed, I thought he was better than that. Take the kids to Disneyland while mom does her party hopping with the boytoy. Be the dad, not the ex's valet. Grow some brass ones, Bruce. Geez o'flip, you're creepin' me out, here...

It is not necessary to formally meet many Iraqis to notice people giving thumbs up to the troops and to be aware of childen being inoculated.

I don't suppose Tim Robbins, Ed Asner or Martin Sheen will be doing the same.

Heck, is what Bruce Willis did LEGAL?

Why in the world would it be illegal to support the military?

But who cares whether it's legal. What really matters is that it's absolutely WONDERFUL!

I think she's the one with the problem with the boytoy. Maybe Bruce is watching to make sure the boytoy doesn't get out of hand with the other kids.

What a great guy. One of the few hollywood actors to put their money where their mouth is.

I remember last Spring, when he bought 12K worth of Girl Scout Cookies, and sent them out to the USS Wasp (LHD-1) and it Amph. Ready Group...Blew the Sailor and Marines away. I've got pics around here somewhere My wife took when they received them onboard ship!

The only part I didn't like. Willis is masculine, not macho. He's not some overinflated steroid-gobbler. And he seems content to age more naturally than a lot of other actors. He's also a better actor so he doesn't need a lot of surgery or artifical enhancement.

There was a photo in the LA Times I saw of Willis, Jack Nicholson and Davis at an anti-recall rally.

It's defintiely the case.

or maybe he's creepy and enjoys fantasizing about his ex-wife with young studs to the point that he doesn't care what his kids are subjected to?

Here is a paragraph from a column about it.

While we're on the subject of Davis, the best photo of the entire recall campaign was the one of him hobnobbing with Jack Nicholson and Bruce Willis, after which, the three amigos went cruising for chicks. I thought it was a file photo from a Laker game, but it turns out Nicholson and Willis are anti-recall and attended a $1,000-a-head fund-raiser at the Century Plaza Hotel.

HEADLINE: Steve Lopez / POINTS WEST; Rehearsed Lines Are for Movies, Not Debates -- LA Times 9/21/03

I saw the photo.

Time to add a Bruce Willis wing to my dvd collection.

12 Monkeys and Unbreakable are two of my favorite movies. He's terrific in both.
