I just got an EDIS alert that there was an 8.0 quake near Hokkaido, Japan. Tsunami warnings for AK. No news sources yet that I can find...

The Director's Cut edition of 'The Abyss' on DVD, wide screen with Dolby Surround Sound, to be even more precise... ;0)

My friend in Anchorage tells me "tsunami watch for the aleutians, 7 foot wave in hanasaki japan, won't be felt in lower 48"

What you are looking at is normal.
At 1301 (times rough) is the Japan earthquake being noticed by the sensors.
At 1315-1345, the waves you see are simply echos and the long waves of the Japanese earthquake arriving.
I watch this sensor and a lot of other Utah sensors quite often.
The other vibrations you see, I think are human made vibrations caused by the visitors. Quite normal. Note how they started up after sunrise.
A real and close earthquake in yellowstone or any sensor would be very much higher.
BTW, the waves 1313-1345 is a great indicator of a major earthquake somewhere in the world. They don't show up with a quake less than 6.0 (my observation).

I'm wondering why it took a full hour for the Colorado USGS people to report this 8.0?

By BURP I meant on the seismic charts, not burp in terms of spewing lava. Sorry to mislead. (at least for the moment)
See earthquake activity in WA, etc. Is it building?

Interesting to see all the deleted footage, although the "end of the world, you must all love each other (or we'll drown your sorry a$$es)" mush was a tad much...

But, I'm in Salt Lake City and when I look west, I see a big wave bringing all the Reno casinos toward us. What's with that?

tsunami that hit Hawaii that can't have been much taller than a foot or two Yes, a tsunami on the open ocean may not be noticeable.

There was a aftershock in Japan of 6.0 after the big 8.0. quake.

That chart looks scary, but may well not be scary at all. We don't know the scale of the seismograph. It's entirely possible that these charts are simply registering the quake in Japan. Earthquakes this size are seen on every seismograph on the planet.
I suspect this is nothing to worry about, and that nobody even felt what you're seeing on those charts.
Unless you can offer some info on the scale, these look like small measurements.

Yeah it was... And it was so obvious. They could have at least been clever enough to make it more subtle...

Before anyone panics and thinks that's a shot from a news camera, it's a still from the movie "The Abyss". And before anyone panics and thinks that the Queen Mary put out to sea and ran into this mother, PBRSTREETGANG's photo is not real either. It is from "The Poseidon Adventure."

6:43 a.m. Friday, in Japan
OK (and I'm just as bad as others) but enough of the light, 'series/hugh' joking now.
The Japanese casulty (so far, injuries only) reports are starting to come in now. Watching them crawl in over the news in Japanese. 3 injured here, 2 injured there, 1 injured on the Nemuro Line of the JR national railways in Hokkaido, etc.

If the expert with some of the newest research re Yellowstone and scalar waves etc is remotely accurate . . . buckle your seat-belts.
I do feel upon reviewing the USGS site, I just feel in my gut that this is not the last big quake to occur relatively soon. I personally expect another one within 90 days and probably a lot sooner. But my sense is so subtle I don't know what level of probability to ascribe to it. I really do expect it. But I feel I sense so little and know so little I won't be shocked if I'm wrong.
But I'd sure pay attention if I lived in Seattle, Portland, Oregon, SF or LA. It will be interesting to see if there's any Hawaiian volcano repercussions as there have been from some of the Philipine and South Sea Islands quakes.
