Regarding biggest FR fights, I didn’t follow the McCollum/Martinez wars. But I remember the Toomey/Specter fight.

I don’t remember seeing the kind of exit poll you describe.

Oh yeah but Toomey/Specter was more like 80% of the thread participants solidly in Toomey's camp and the remaining 20% saying "I personally don't like Specter but I must support whoever President Bush tells me to". (followed by them assuring FR that it would be Specter's "last term" and he would retire in 2010) ;-)

The Arnie/Tom and McCollum/Martinez wars were more evenly divided between both camps.

I think the one positive to come out of the whole Arnoldbot scheme to take over the CA GOP is we saw this coming in 2008 with the Giualini crowd trying to shove him down our throats, and this time conservatives didn't allow it. (though we ended up with backstabber McCain instead). However, I think a Giuliani takeover of the GOP nationally would have been fatal. The GOP would have become a carbon copy of the Dems on most issues with the only difference being Giuliani harping about "9/11". At least now we have Sarah Palin.
