It is time...ASK McClintock to DROP OUT of the race
McClintock website ^

Posted on 09/25/2003 10:40:28 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

McClintock is a great guy! I agree with him and if I could wave my magic wand, I would make him the Gov. of California...no questions asked.

Now, back to reality.

McClintock is running BEHIND Arnold and should DROP OUT for the good of the Republican party and for California...who cannot take any more liberal Governors!

Yes, he could stay in .... and after the election his supporters can say WE SURE SHOWED ARNOLD... as we watch Bustamonte sworn in to office.

Headline: STUPID PARTY STRIKES AGAIN

When Republicans unite, Republicans WIN. When Republicans are divided, democRATS win.

We can win this one....

The Calif. voters have a choice. The republicans have moved so far towards socialism that conservatives are going to have to make some tuff decisions in the next few years. Go along to get along hasn't exactly empowered the conservative faction.

Havoc: Cutting taxes will cause a boost in revenue. Cutting programs and waste will free up more. And Infrastructure if done as per usual will pay for itself through use fees. Pretty simple. Next.
Next? But Ahnold proposed at least four new big spending programs. How is that cutting programs? By adding more? Doesn't compute. Can you give me one detail that Ahnold of waste that he is going to cut and how he is going to do it? Not broad promises. Nuts and bolts. Seems like a lot of nuts, no bolts.

Chancellor Palpatine said: "The secret is out now, thanks to Tom McClintock - the GOP can win without excessive pandering to hyperrigidity. "

So you think Kalifornia gunowners are "hyper-rigid" because they oppose Arnold who wishes to "close da loophole of da gunshows" (which doesn't even exist in Kalifornia) or who wishes to outlaw "assault weapons" evidently because they are particularly dangerous.

The present "assault weapons" laws outlaw one-third of the firearms I own. The new handgun "safety" bill will make it illegal to sell another one-third of the firearms I own in about three years.

I have absolutely no reason to believe that Arnold would not have signed the latest and greatest, new, improved handgun safety bill.

The "hyper-rigid" platform of the Republican party in Kalifornia says nothing about regulating gunshows, outlawing some rifles, dictating the redesign of handguns, or requiring the registration of firearms.

What part of "shall not be infringed" do YOU not understand? I can see that Arnold hasn't a clue and differs not a whit from anti-gun Demoncrats.

This type of "small tent" thinking would take us back to the wonderful days when the Republicans were ruled by Tip O'Neill and his like for 40 years in the House.

I shudder to think how many of these folks would vote for Shrillary ahead of Giuliani for Senate in ought six because of the latter's social liberalism.

Politics is all about knowing when to compromise. That's how things get done politically. Ed Koch was right: "If you agree with me on 9 of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree on 12 of 12, see a psychiatrist."

Are you playing dumb?

I don't care how many are on the ballot, it's between Arnold and Cruz.

That's reality.

If Tom drops out then we are left with no one who suppurts the Republican platform. How would that help?

Haven't you heard? According to the BBFM (BushBot Flying Monkeys), you're not supposed to care about platforms or principles. It doesn't matter what the candidate says or does, just shut up and vote Republican.

Arnold is the spoiler in this race intended to throw the election to Bustamecha the racist liberal or Arnold the liberal.

Tom should not drop out.

Just to spite the Arniebots here, I'm going to click on the same McClintock link and send my support of McClintock staying in the race.

Actually, it's between 100+ candidates. Votes should go to the person who most represents one's principles. I'd encourage people to vote for whoever will fight for their views.

On MSNBC last night, following the debate, gubinor moonbeam was having a conniption and stating that the only chance the demons had was for greyout to challenge Arnie in a series of one on one debates, mano y mano. How incredibly funny is that!

Creds: Grew up in CA, degreed from UCSB, moved to and presently living in MI; so I won't be voting in the recall (rats).

Let's see if we can agree on certain basic points:
- If either Tom or Arnie were out, the other would certainly win.
- Arnie is consistently polling higher than Tom
- Neither is polling consistently higher than Cruz by more than the MOE.
- Tom's issue positions are more consistent with conservative principles.
- With many absentee ballots coming in, if one candidate dropped, a lot of votes would be lost as invalid.
- Democrat supporters are happy to see and encourage division between Arnie and Tom in any form wherever possible; they know their own position is weak.

Ok? No flamebait there I hope.

There exist the following possibilities. I will attempt to state the two candidates' supporters' views on these possibilities as neutrally as I can.

1. Division among the two Republican candidates ends up electing Cruz. On the plus side, conservative integrity is intact, and we retain "we didn't vote for this mess" as a talking point. On the other hand, principle without power is still powerless to affect change, and Cruz is far to the left of even Davis.

2. One or the other Republican, most likely Arnie, wins even with two Republican candidates; this will almost certainly not be a plurality. On the plus side, Cruz doesn't win; either R will do more for CA than Davis or Cruz; and a R governor will be able to lend support for W in 2004; on the minus side, CA congressional RATs will be able to stonewall using the line that 'most voters didn't choose X' and later blame the Governor and Republicans for any CA woes.

3. One of the R candidates drops out (or a decisive number of endorsements are given or change to one candidate). The remaining R candidate wins, quite possibily with a plurality. Positively, we get the benefits of #2 plus the 'mandate' line the winner can use to get things done in Sacramento. However the likely name in scenario 3 to win is Arnie, not Tom; which means if you will 'settling' for incrementalism and the concern over watering down conservativism.

My own perspective is that we have seen in CA, and in the 92-94 timeframe nationally, what happens when radical leftists run everything. CA is too big to lose, both on a political scale as a leading indicator into 2004 and an economic scale. I don't personally buy into the "watch them screw it up worse, then they'll really see how right we were all along" because frankly the end-road on that path is Zimbabwe, is North Korea.

Do I have a preference for Arnie or Tom? Yes. But IMO that preference is irrelevant next to making sure we don't all end up looking like the back-biting incompetant party. Let's leave that title for the Democratic presidential hopefuls.

sometime it must be demonstrated once and for all what extreme liberal/communist governance will ultimately lead to

My sentiments exactly. What is everyone affraid of? The best advertising for conservatism is a strong dose of unrestrained liberalism. After all, Jimmah Carter did give us 8 years of Reagan.

Perhaps McClintock and Arnold are working together. Perhaps they have a deal where McClintock drops out 3 days before the election which will pump up Republicans and energize them to vote. Arnold then campaigns for McClintock for senator.

Neville Chamberlain gave Great Britain 5 years of Churchill, but I hardly think it was worth it.

Are you saying that, in hindsight, you would vote for Carter over Ford in 1976?

Or that you'll vote for Dean over Bush on the theory that because Dean is such a leftist and Bush is not conservative enough, we'll get a conservative in '08?

Actually, Arnold would make a better US senator, since that office is about representation.

The governor's office is about nuts & bolts policy, TM forte.

President Bush, Representatives Cox, Rohracher, and Dreier, Bill Simon, and 33 of 34 GOP county chairman have endorsed Arnold Schwarzeegger -- so to you they are liberals too.

Get a grip on reality, and vote for Arnold.

Good thing California Republicans didn't give up on Ronald Reagan when he was running behind in the polls.

That was in the primary, completely different. The moderate wing of the Republican Party thought they had it locked up with Christopher, but Reagan's message got through! Good thing!!
