"It's unlikely the giant snakehead could survive the cold water of a Wisconsin winter, Staggs said."
Ha. Famous Last Words, Inc.
There's a bunch of carp flourishing in Lake Conroe last time I knew, and the hydrilla plant it was supposed to eat is still there. I thought the carp was supposed to die when the hydrilla went away...

Fear not!
A Dem State Senator has already issued a Press Release -- yes, a Press Release -- saying she will introduce legislation making it illegal to possess certain non-native, invasive species.
Well, she's not sure which species, she has to talk that over with anglers, the DNR, bait dealers, etc.
My questions:
Who "possessed" this species found in the Rock River?
Won't prohibiting posession of these as-yet unidentified animal species increase the likelihood they'll be introduced to the natural environment?

Picture of the voracious Snakhead Fish from China displayed by Maryland DNR
Maryland Department of Natural Resources officials discovered the presence of the species in May, after an angler caught a suspicious fish and provided a photo for identification. They determined that an unnamed individual put two foot-long fish of unknown sex into the Crofton pond sometime in 2000. Since that time, the presence of additional northern snakeheads in the pond has been confirmed.
DNR Fisheries Service Director Eric C. Schwaab states, "They [snakeheads] are top-level predators so they clearly can eat a lot of the native fish there and displace other native top-level predators, like large-mouth bass and pickerel, both of which are in that pond. One of the problems with non-native species is you never know what the impact is going to be."
"This situation again points out the responsibility we all share to refrain from purposeful release of fish to our waterways and to take great care to prevent even accidental introductions of non-native bait, plants or other species when we go fishing, boating, or otherwise venture into the natural environment," Schwaab continued.

fish managers say that with no natural predatorMaybe not natural, but I think this little lady has found a potential predator:
"And I don't have a thing that looks like a squirrel in my tackle box."

Don't be sorry. It isn't the same article. One is from USA Today the other from Associated Press.
I said in my post "related article". Not "already posted".

Hey, if the American fish can't compete with the Chinese fish, it's their own fault. They should become entrepreneurs and start their own lakes.

All we have to do is spread a rumor in the Far East that snakehead tongues will both triple your virility and add inches to your johnson.
They'll be gone in no time, and take the heat off the rhinos.
Might cause an upsurge in johnson enlargement spam though. I can see it now: "Amazing (or ancient) Chinese discovery will enlarge your penis guaranteed!!!!!"

That's one ugly fish - and what's that it's holding? You ought to see some of the monster catfish and gar [and worse] they've hauled out of the Mississippi here around Memphis, some weighing in arround 60 pounds.
There's been a warning for kids not to swim in the Mississippi, but it explains what's happened to some of them feared drowned whose bodies have never been recovered.
Y'all come 'round here and visit sometime, y'hear?
