It was a failure for a rather simple reason:

Crab is too difficult to eat (you have to work for it) and most people are not willing to spend their asking price.

No, this was not an issue of people eating too much for the price. Instead, the customers were simply not willing to pay that amount.

That's why I generally skip Snow Crab, even though I enjoy all types of seafood. On the other hand, when King Crab is available, ooh baby... It's more expensive than Snow Crab, but a) it tastes better, and b) it's bigger, so each leg or claw segment gives up a much larger chunk of meat. Great stuff.

You need special scissors to open up the crab shells, especially their legs. Some restaurants provide such scissors and with others you just have to bring your own.
