Geez, Sabs, Hugh Hewitt is a good, pro-life, pro-defense conservative. As an outsider looking in it seems to me good conservatives are on both sides of this argument.

Hannity is on the radio at the moment, brow-beating any callers who have the nerve to call in support of Mclintock. The winning-is-the-only-thing Republicans are no different than Democrats, it seems.

I'm pretty lucky, living in a state where we have the Governorship, both houses of the Assembly, both Senators and a majority of the congressional delegation. But I sure remember the bad old days before Reagan. Not only is losing no fun, but the bad guys run amok creating all kinds of problems. It didn't take Davis long to run California into the crapper.

Because I'm actually listening to what he's saying. He says he will not raise taxes, he will work to repeal the outrageous 300% car tax, he will cut regulations that stifle CA business, reform Workman's comp based on the AZ model. HE says we are taxed too much and regulated too much. His role models are Ronald Reagan and Milton Friedman. His economic ideas are all I care about right now. I did not sign a petition to recall Gray Davis based on his views on abortion or gay marriage. This State is going to hell in a handbasket and in an ideal world, McClintock might be a good start. But this is California so I'd rather have someone closer to my beliefs than someone like Cruz Bustamante. Now, what part of that don't you understand? It's only been repeated about 8,000 times on Free Republic. McClintock CANNOT win. The assumption is that if AS dropped out all his votes would go to McClintock and that's just not true.

Robert Kennedy Jr. as environmental advisor (imagine the business killing regulations that ill come out of that) warren buffet as economic advisor (pro inheritence tax, pro repeal of prop 13, anti tax cut) pro-abortion pro-gun control pro illegal immigrants Last I checked, that is a democrat.

YES!!! As a long time reader of the FREEP and a long suffering California Republican living in Sacramento, this post hit the nail ON THE HEAD!!!
It's simple: Would you really rather have Gray/Bustee in that corner office or enjoy your "pride" for having stuck with a loser on principle.
I signed the recall petition to get RID of the Dem's hold on our state. Arnold is going to be better than Gray or Bust-a-movee EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!

Republicans have not made a smart move in California in years, and McLintock is about to ensure the skein remains unbroken. If McLintock is responsible for Bustamante coming to power in California he will be forever reviled because he will have brought the super-radicals to power for the first time. The California economy, simply put, cannot survive a Bustamante tour of duty.

Ironically, it is Blacks who hold the key here. They will not sit back and watch their demise as a voting group. Thus they will likely go Arnold in a big way.

From this Ohio perspective, it seems to me that the Californian Republicans employing arm twisting tactics to push Arnold, are being terribly short-sighted--penny wise and pound foolish, as the old saying.

Frankly, it is obvious that Arnold has a lot to learn, both about politics and the real issues. I do not want to see him destroyed in the learning process. Hopefully, he will move to the right, and become a valued ally in the future. But it is just plain stupid for those twisting arms on his behalf to deliberately alienate a large block of California Republican voters, in order to sell a pig-in-a-poke. Even if they succeed in selling Arnold, in this manner; and even if he turns out half-way decent; they will have sown the seed for future bitterness, that will haunt the party for the next decade.

Do these people see politics merely as a sporting event--where winning is the only interest, regardless of whether or not the price of victory is the inability to accomplish anything of value? If they cared about results, they would rally around a candidate who would face the ethnic dilemma. There is no hope for a solution to what has been happening in California, in a politically correct hiding of heads in the sand. That serves no interest, Anglo or Mexican; White or Black; Red, Brown or Cream colored; white collar or blue collar; old or young, rich or poor, etc., etc.. It is fair to no one, of any background, occupation or ethnicity.

Nor can anyone, who wants to retain a decent lifestyle in California; a climate where families can raise emotionally healthy children, with good values, ignore the profound issues in the so-called "Culture War." Again, a head in the sand, appease every militant faction but the proponents of traditional Western values approach, will only speed the social disintegration, which cannot possibly be divorced from the economic disintegration.

This Hewitt appears, more and more, to be degenerating into a totally fatuous spin doctor. At least that is how he appears from this distant vantage point.
