Christian who married ex-Muslim detained

An Egyptian Christian who married a Muslim convert to Christianity was pulled off an international flight this afternoon in Cairo, Egypt, and is being held by Egyptian secret police.

Bolis Rezek-Allah had an immigrant visa to Canada, according to the U.S.- based monitor Voice of the Martyrs, or VOM.

His wife, Enas Badawi, also is sought by police but has not been apprehended, VOM said.

Egypt bars Christian men from marrying Muslim women. The government, refusing to recognize Badawi's conversion, still recognizes her as a Muslim.

"It is interesting that the Egyptian government has no problem with Muslim men marrying Christian women," said VOM spokesman Todd Nettleton in a statement. "But they won't recognize the right of Christian men to marry Muslim women."

Nettleton noted the Egyptian government claims to give its citizens religious freedom.

"There is complete freedom for Christians if they want to convert to Islam, but no freedom for Muslims to choose to follow Christ," he said.

. . . but no freedom for Muslims to choose to follow Christ . . .

There is only one Satan, and Mohammed is his messenger.

Actually, that's par for the course in the M.E.

To be fair, Egypt is the land of religious tolerance in the Middle East. They require permits for you to build or repair a church (no such thing for Mosques), but they actually issue them. They try to prevent violence against any Christians, because it could escalate into a civil war. There is also a branch of the government that has to approve each Mosque's sermons. Egypt is better than most, Jordan is pretty good too.

Yep. That's about the gist of it.

But, he's still right. Egypt (and Jordan) is the best smelling pile.

In Egypt, a Christian (Coptic or otherwise) can find work, or open a business. They can attend church. The government has courts for Christians, that are separate from the Muslim courts (Pakistan has a similar but slightly less tolerant system, where non-Muslims have to carry ID cards to the religious police don't arrest them for religious crimes, some other tolerant Muslim countries restrict the jurisdiction of the religious courts to Muslims). In other Muslim nations, everyone lives by Muslim law (see Saudi Arabia and Iran). It's not tolerance they way we know, but like I said, Egypt is one of the best in the region.

I won't even grace this nonsense with the standard "Islam Is The Religion Of Peace!" notice.

Islam Is The Religion Of Complete Intolerance, Spiritual and Physical Slavery, and Total Theological and Secular Totalitarianism!

I'm more and more inclined to say, kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out. He will find it a very easy sort.

The entire civilized world would find itself much better off.

Islam is a Religion Of Peace.

Ever wonder just how persons of non-muslim faith are treated in Muslim countries - just ask a few, if they are still around.

The problem is that most Muslims have had this stuff taugh to them from birth. This in and of itself is not that bad. We all have to start with something. But in too many Muslim countries you are forbidden (or at least severely 'discouraged') from changing if you find the particular life you have is not all it was cracked up to be. What's ironic is that many Muslims are considered atheists, which seems something of an oxymoron to me. It's OK to be an atheist as long as you don't convert.

Darned right! I was reading about some Muslim country where they kill one-third of their own babies, and the government there supports it!

Oh wait -- maybe it wasn't a Muslim country. Now that I think about it, maybe it was some other country. Okay, never mind.
