Before the California recall race got under way, gubernatorial candidate Tom McClintock made a private pledge to step aside if his campaign threatened to spoil Republican chances to take power in Sacramento.
That was the bombshell revelation yesterday from the driving force behind the recall movement, Rep. Darryl Issa, who described to nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity a conversation he had with the conservative favorite several months ago.
"When I talked to Tom even before he got in, he told me a couple of things that when you have these kind of conversations you never forget," Issa told Hannity.
"He said, 'Look, I'm not going to be in this race if it's not a crowded field. I know the numbers for a conservative. And I'm not going to stay in and be a spoiler.'"
"Those are two quotes that he told me directly over the phone," Issa claimed. He then pointed out, "It was a crowded field, it's no longer a crowded field. And he does have to make ... a tough decision."
The Republican congressman predicted that McClintock would ultimately keep his word.
"Tom McClintock, if the numbers stay where they are, has an opportunity to be the hero," Issa told Hannity. "He has the chance to be a real hero and I believe that he is a good man and he will take that chance at the right time."

I don't support any Republican who takes money for his campaign from Indian gambling interest! You got that?
The Governor of California has to negotiate with the Indian Tribes and cannot be seen as partial to them no more than a candidate should take money from public unions that they negotiate with.
You see there is more to McC than just abortion and the other is what I am seeing that I don't like. He will not compromise or is a team player by the people that know him best -- other CA Republican Senators. Taking money from Indians is not what a "principled" conservative does and living in Sacramento full time with your family while your district is the porn capital of America doesn't speak much about his values either! Where is his outrage about that?

Issa's got my vote next time he runs for something. He's the one person that has come up as a class act during this whole recall. The others should take note.

"I believe that he [Tom] is a good man and he will...[drop out that is]" saysDarryl Issa.
Poor Issa. He paid for this thing to save his state and rebuild his party.
Tom has poisoned the well... intentionally.
I doubt he will drop out.
But am confident he will not win.
I BELIEVE Arnold will still win.

What do you mean "his district is the porn capital of America"? I thought McClintock's district was Thousand Oaks, and that is where my husband grew up. It's very suburban. It's a great place!

Thousand Oaks IS the porn capital of America.

Yeah, because posing butt naked for a homosexual photographer just screams integrity. McClintock voting for domestic partners to have the same property tax advantages as married couples is much more troublesome. SCA 9. McClintock and the gay and lesbian coalition were together on the bill.

Lets get Arnold in with large numbers - he will owe us.As he has done very little during the campaign to earn the votes of more conservative californians, I seriously doubt he will feel he 'owes' us anything.
Regardless of who wins, I hope the most verbose supporters among us plan on sticking around to receive their due for the consequences of their guy's policies, or lack thereof.

Have you ever been to Thousand Oaks? If there's porn there, then it is very hidden. It's not like Broadway in San Francisco or Hollywood.
We would love to be able to move there. It's very family oriented. Lots of lovely neighborhoods, and very nice people. My husbands friends are wonderful.

McX has proven himself to be a liar and a hypocrite. Do you support the principles of a liar and hypocrite? Gee, an ad hominem attack. And then you ask me to respond as though it's legitimate.
Tell me when you stopped beating your wife, and I'll answer your question.
