Tribes that run California casinos aim to run the whole state.
Wednesday, September 24, 2003 12:01 a.m.
California state judge Loren McMaster ruled this week that Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante violated campaign laws by paying for a TV ad campaign with more than $3 million from Indian casinos and unions, donated in violation of state contribution limits. Richie Ross, Mr. Bustamante's campaign manager, says the campaign has already spent the money and thus can't comply with the judge's order to return it to the donors. The controversy will dog Mr. Bustamante's campaign as well as raise questions about the disproportionate influence that Indian casinos now exercise in California government.

Agree. This is an important piece, especially the report that the Governor would consider halting all development within five miles of sacred sites determined by the tribes. This would be just another form of blackmail because anyone who has worked with the tribes knows that they play the con game that from the smallest boulder to the tallest tree everything is "sacred".

The Indians apparently agree. The Morongo TV ad touts the news that "independent polls show that McClintock has the momentum to win." Sources tell me they have seen a memo from David Quintana, the legal counsel for the California Nations Indian Gaming Association, that was sent to tribal leaders. In it Mr. Quintana raised a warning flag about Mr. Schwarzenegger's positions and his reliance on several aides to former governor Pete Wilson, a skeptic on the expansion of Indian gambling. "This is war, we're going after Arnold Schwarzenegger," the memo concluded. The decision to invest in an effort to stop Mr. Schwarzenegger was made at a private strategy meeting last month, from which several more-moderate tribes were excluded. Participants discussed the need to keep Mr. McClintock in the race on "life support."
McClintock is the designated Useful Idiot of the Indians.
It's in black and white, the Indians are not supporting McClintock out of his past friendly actions toward the Indians. Instead, the Indians are war against the Republican Party.

Most of these "Indians" are not really indians...they are more Mexican than Indian through intermarriage. They are as Indian as the ones running Foxwoods casino back east!

Richie Ross, Mr. Bustamante's campaign manager, says the campaign has already spent the money and thus can't comply with the judge's order to return it to the donors. Since when has that got to do anything with it? If you lose a court judgment, you don't have the option of saying, "Sorry, I can't afford to pay it." The judge should respond to this by appointing a receiver and attaching everything of value belonging to the corporate campaign entity -- including any future donations it may receive.

That's a hot one. I'll have to try it on my mortgage company. "Sorry Mr. Mortgage Company Man, but I can't make this month's house payment. I pulled the money out of my bank account and was going to convert it to a money order and send it when I got the bill, but saw these kewl seat covers for my car and spent it on them instead. So I don't have the mortgage money any more. Hope you understand."

(I wonder if Tom McClintock will have to "make a reservation" to pay back all that money?)
To: PhiKapMom
At least we know of one Republican that is not supporting Indian gaming.

When looking for the info on the CA GOP pulling support from Indian Gambling, I found this -- Besides, as a
libertarian-leaning Republican, McClintock is a natural ally of the Indians anyway. Did you know that McC is considered a liberatiran-leaning Republican? I don't remember reading that!

Wow! It all makes sense now. ambrose, roscoe, angryclam, etc, all Libertarians. Even the Robinsons. Guess that show us (through the polls) how many libertarians there are.
Great find!!
To: hotpotato
And I am with that one Republican! Republicans taking money from Indian gambling really bugs me!

He appears not to be a team player but I don't know about his libertarian-leaning. I thought libertarians were pro-choice. Where did you find that?
To: EggsAckley
I am with you -- I read that and it all made sense! I thought maybe I had just missed it but just in case I posted that gem!
