Retired basketball star David Robinson to become a minister
(San Antonio-AP) -- Basketball star David Robinson, who retired from the San Antonio Spurs after leading them to this year's N-B-A championship, will reportedly become a minister at his longtime church.
The Reverend Max Lucado told worshipers at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio that Robinson will become a "minister at large," adding that he and Robinson may teach a weekly Bible study together.
Lucado told the San Antonio Express-News that Robinson "is a great teacher and a great builder."
During the Spurs' title run, Robinson said that he was considering ministry after his retirement.

David Robinson and his wife also donated over $10 million to found
The Carver Academy, which is a private school that stresses Judeo-Christian values and academics, and is targeted towards underprivileged kids.
Not too many like him.

He would have had a tough time in a submarine...most of the hatches and passageways are designed for persons 5-foot-9 and below; and the "racks" are miserable if you are above 5-foot-9. I know, I was on a "boat" in the 1960s.
Robinson has always been one of my sports heroes. I remember in his college days at the Naval Academy, how he kept the Mids in a game against top-ranked Michigan until the final five minutes...

Oh boy, do I remember him at the Naval Academy. I was in college at James Madison '84-'87, while Robinson was a Middie, and we played them twice a year. The term "man among boys" comes to mind...he was a one-man wrecking crew. Imagine somebody with his size, power, and touch playing in a small conference like the Colonial, and it's not hard to see how he was totally dominant.
We almost beat USNA at Annapolis one of those years...if I remember right, The Admiral banked in a desperation forty-footer at the buzzer to give Navy the win.
I still like him though. :) It's hard not to like somebody who, almost singlehandedly, was swimming against the bling-bling tide in that cultural cesspool called the NBA.

Good news and good luck David.

...while Robinson was a Middie.... Let me be the first to (gently) remind you that a "Middie" is a detestable skirt. Students at the United States Naval Academy are referred to as Midshipmen. :)

He's a minister, a mathematician, a pianist, and a science fiction fan. He's also a great basketball player, and an all-around great guy.
He's not a man. He's Buckaroo Banzai.
