When Memphis had that INLAND hurricane a couple of months ago, it took them nearly 30 days to get everyone back on. It seems our electric systems all across the US are getting OLD, and are not being up dated as they should. Folks use to trim their trees to keep them from falling on power lines. Now no one does it anymore and the lines are often brought down due to storms, and you end up with hundreds or thousands with out power.

Yup. Some yuppie parts of Maryland even passed an ordinance prohibiting the electric company from pruning the tree too much. And whenever they do prune, they get complaints.

Hi, Gail - thanks for your comment about the little mouse I posted on Amy's thread. Hard to keep up with that thread and this one, too, and get anything else done!

The power company here hires Ashphunel (I think it's spelled correctly) and other tree trimming firms. They work year round day after day.
It's strange to see a tree with a flat top of one that has mohawk on one side and nothing on the other. The giant power lines always have crews working on them. Transformers get blown up everday by birds and small animals oppossums, squirrels, raccoons etc.
Every transformer in this country has to be replaced because of pbc or initial stuff. The replacements are very expensive .
