The power company here hires Ashphunel (I think it's spelled correctly) and other tree trimming firms. They work year round day after day.

It's strange to see a tree with a flat top of one that has mohawk on one side and nothing on the other. The giant power lines always have crews working on them. Transformers get blown up everday by birds and small animals oppossums, squirrels, raccoons etc.

Every transformer in this country has to be replaced because of pbc or initial stuff. The replacements are very expensive .

After the big ice storm a few years ago MLG & W started aggressively trimming the "tree" lines. What doesn't get trimmed are trees in peoples yards. They are the major cause of down lines. They are the lines which are also the LAST ones repaired. Memphis' inland hurricane, damaged 70% of our traffic lights, and left half the county in the dark. Transformers got hit left and right, there were so many out that MLG & W had to order more from the factory, which meant it took even longer to get the power back up, as it had to use all they had in stock. The storm even damaged the main MLG & W bldg badly. Shut the water system down as there was no power to run the pumps.

The storm here was every bit as bad as Isabel was.
