Agreed. Arnold supporters can't see the short-term and the long-term damage that they do to the party, here. They fail to acknowledge that a man surrounding himself with others demonstrates a singular inability to think for himself. I do not see any of the other candidates surrounding themselves with advisors. This is not a presidential campaign, after all. They also fail to understand that a liberal Republican will not help the state, nor the party in the long run. Elect a liberal, get the status quo. Arnold also furthers the disconnect between the party elites and the grassroots in a disasterous way. (The last primary candidate was Simon, not Riordian!) And then there's the ridiculous association with the governor being in Republican hands and the electoral votes going to Bush -- two phenomenon which are only tangentially related! (Bush won without California last time and he can do it again. So even that argument is fallacious.) Liberalism is a disease. It's sad that it's illusiary promises have such hold on so many Republicans.

So it's only fair to wonder why he's staying in the race. The answer has to be either that he wants Davis to remain governor, or he wants Bustamante to become governor.

By keeping Democrats in Sacramento, California's economy will be moving...to Nevada, Arizona, and Idaho. Oregon and Washington are reaping the 'benefits' of Democrat control, so it's not likely that business owners would move their businesses to those two states.

If Bustamante wins, he has promised to raise taxes. Without a doubt, he will target businesses and "the wealthy."

Since it is unquestionably true that you get more of whatever you subsidize and less of whatever you tax, California will end up with less businesses and wealth.

Not only will some flee the state, but it's a major disincentive to relocate to that state. Given the situation with workmen's comp, taxes, and the regulatory hurdles imposed on businesses in the state, it's hard to understand why any business would voluntarily choose to relocate to California in the present environment.

Arnold supporters are more closely alligned with Democrats, especially on social issues. I'm in my 50s, and I've seen this country move from a responsible, decent, and honorable republic to a viscious, partisan, mean, hate-filled polyglot of schemers, shysters, libertines, frauds, and anti-American bigots, and it's not going to improve in my lifetime, if it ever does. Some say "Don't stand on your principles," and "You must compromise." I don't think so. My principles and my honor are not for sale. I value them and see them as my priceless heritage, passed on to me by my father and my forefathers. I would not shame them by surrendering my honor and my principles than they would have condemned me to a life of slavery and oppression. I will die with my principles and honor intact, and the blade of my convictions sharp; and I will not turn them into any plowshares, either; because, in the immortal words of Thomas Jefferson, "Those who turn their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't."

Tell that to Newt Gingrich, Reagan's money man George Schultz, the Howard Jarvis Group and Milton Friedman. They're not aligned with the Rats and they are far more conservative than you are. And they are NOT endorsing Tom ... all, and many more conservatives, are endorsing Arnold. Tom has no support, even in the Repub party.

This is what us Arnold supporters have been saying for two weeks. Tom McClintock knows what the internal polls say, that his support is slipping due to the Indian Casino fiasco, but he still continues on, with the apparent explicit goal of electing Bustamante. I now fully believe this is McClintock's goal, based on his actions and the Burton conversation.

Here is what our Monday polls show:

Bustamante 33%
Schwarzenegger 32%
McClintock 12%

In addition, our polls suggest the large undecided would swing decisively in Arnold's direction if Tom were to pull out.

There are two weeks until the election. McClintock can do nothing but spoil. His actions are clearly disgraceful, akin to the idiotic Libertarian candidates who help elect Democrats opposed to their views. But his ego will clearly not be moved. So if Tom does not pull out I URGE my fellow Californians to vote NO on recall to avoid Tom's goal and our state's worst nightmare: a Bustamante Regime.

VOTE "NO". BETTER DAVIS THAN AZTLAN.

Let's see in the poll on this web-site Arnold and Tom both get around 50%. I know this isn't exactly correct and that Tom is leading Arnold but that's close enough. Assume that percentage is exactly the number of conservative votes Arnold is getting. That reduces Arnold's percentage of the votes to 13% if he drops out and that will go to Tom. That'll put Tom at 27%, which is around what Arnold now has. Which by the way, on the surface, looks like a good thing. Question: What happens to the other 13%--who do they vote for?

What on earth are you talking about? We are consultants and pollsters. See our posts over the last 10 days. Your numbers are completely false. The current tally is Arnold-Cruz neck and neck around 33% and McClintock at 12% (and falling due to Indian Casino issue). McClintock can only spoil. He knows this. It is clearly what he wants. He told Burton as much. HE wants Cruz. The only thing we can do is vote "NO" on recall to save this state from its worst nightmare.

What's really killing us are all the attempts to "game" this recall via polling. The polling has been all over the place. 32% undecided on the replacement race in most polls. 32% undecided with two weeks to go!

33 % Cruz
32% Arnold
12% Tom
18% undecided
5% other

those are our Monday results. Tracking polls also show both Bustanate's and McClintock's support slipping from the Indian fiasco. But Arnold's margin insufficient with Tom still in race. Undecideds say they will swing to Arnold if GOP is united. This model predicts a 14% margin for Arnold if Tom pulls out.
