Your pity is misguided, and smacks of the judgemental intolerant belief system I'm sure is very welcome at Berkeley.
One of my duties as a parent is to use my years of experience to help guide my children. The fact that Berkeley has a fine MBA program is not enough. People sell out their belief systems in any number of ways for what they consider "advancement". There are plenty of fine schools out there that will reinforce the moral and ethical lessons I hope will be the foundation of my children's lives. One of those lessons I hope they learn is that sometimes what will impress other people (where you got your sheepskin) is not worth selling out for.

Anyone who would hold their own kids opinions against them is unconsicenceable anyways.

Anyone who thinks opinions don't matter would be an Arnold Republican.

Hold their opinions against them? What moral relitivism that is! Is paying for college a requirement for good parenting? I consider financial help at that level to be a priviledge. Would I be a cooler parent if I let them go where ever they want, for whatever reason they want, to do whatever they want? I don't want to be friends with my kids, I want to be their parent. What is unconsicenceable is giving equal weight to the opinion of someone a) not paying the bill b) has far less life experience and c) is understandibly more interested in how cute the football team is than whether or not they can grow morally and spiritually, even if by accident, at college.

The fact that you would dismissed an education in a an environment that is somewhat incompatiable with your beliefs shows how weak minded you are. I only the true warriors will dare jump into the lion's den and not falter in their beliefs. Not only is my pity not misguided but it also shows that you are the one that is intolerant. So scared are you of different opinions in life you are afraid to meet them head on.. you are afraid that you could be proven wrong. Scary guide you are.

it used to be alumni donated and were active in order to protect the name and reputation of the university. This was to protect the value of a degree "in the real world". Now even on this thread, alumni are saying they would not pay to sent their children to their alma mater.

Universities should take not or die out.

Good luck to you buddy... If you thought my arguement was that they should do whatever they want however they want whenever they want you are far past aruging with. I hope your little make believe world treats you well.

That is so sad and, ironically, intolerant. I expose my children to a variety of opinions, as I do myself, and have to go no farther than my own family table at the Holidays for as wide a political, social and religious group as you can get. What supreme ba*** you have to make such a sweeping generalization based on a discussion of how much say a CHILD should have in picking their college. You have no clue as to how and when I chose to expose my family to a variety of things.
And trust me, Berkely is not "somewhat incompatible" for me, I have a brother there now and it is supremely incompatible.

A weak mind is most often revealed when people use insults to buffer personal opinion......and that is really all you have to lean on, personal opinion.

Few people would argue that an 18 year old is at the height of their "best judgement"years. Part of college, for my family, is an opportunity to instill and reinforce their values before they are truly thrown to the world to face intolenant and mean spirited people like you. And yes, its true, people like you are exactly who I do not want my children exposed to. I'll look for people who have varying opinions and manage to express themselves in a civil and respectful manner.

By the way, Howard Dean called, he wants your advice.

I know the boy's father, and he has raised intelligent Catholic children who know the Truth and are repulsed by the Prince of Lies.

Increasing numbers of parents among the nation's 63 million Catholics are turning their backs on the traditional powerhouse Catholic universities. They are gravitating toward a new breed of college that aims to attract students who place God's truth, moral absolutes and loyalty to Pope John Paul II above parties, sexual hookups and winning football programs.

This is great news.

I’ve only known a couple of graduates from Notre Dame. One of them was a truly a despicable jerk. He left me with a negative impression of the school.

Funny.. and you dare to make an arguement based on your own personal opinion on what's right for your children. In order to be the person that we would all aspire to be we need to make mistakes. That's what growing up is all about. Clearly someone like you as you did in your last post is to say that means "whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want" which is the farthest thing from the truth. In order for us to shape our lives we cannot constantly have our lives pushed into the direction of others simply because we don't agree with their opinions. You think you what you are doing is best for your kids when in reality you are being no more than a bully. Follow my beliefs and my ideology or to hell with you. Your right.. if your kids decide they have an opinion of their own keep your money to yourself.. I mean God knows it will do you all the good in the world to buy a fancier car or take a better vacation because your kids have values different then you do.

What a joke. You say insults are an example of a weak mind? Please..... I think you said best when you said I had "supreme ba***". I call things like I see it. You don't respect people's opinions.. you might listen to them but you are nothing more than a bully. You hold all the cards to so listen to me or I'll withhold everything that I can help you with.

I have a heads up for you. You don't know it all. I don't know it all. Why don't you stop pretending like you do.

Nice gratuitous slam.....I have only known a few graduates of the University of Michigan and truly, they are all jerks. hhhmmm...My Notre Dame logic might suggest that all UofM grads are jerks, but I know better.

I read the article carefully. My son attends Notre Dame and I can assure you, from the conversations I have had with his friends, it is still a very Catholic school, despite what is stated in this article......Just as with your comments about Notre Dame and mine about Michigan, we are both wrong, there are mighty good folks from each school. There is clearly a desire on the part of liberals in society to eliminate any effect religion may have on society, but lets not go assuming that all Catholic universities have abandoned their founding religion.

Well,....I might suggest that Georgetown has strayed a bit.

Nice gratuitous slam

Sorry. You’re right and I was wrong to say that. It was based on an inadequate sample set and borne of a deep resentment for a particular individual from a long time ago. There’s no way he could have been representative of the school or the place would have burned to the ground years ago.

As I reflect on it, there are some fine people who come to mind who graduated from there, including relatives.

Go Irish!

I will confess to being a complete 5 star idiot on game days and no one, including my wife, who I think still loves me wants to be around me. You are a nice guy for responding. I did not mean to make it sound like I was being mean about your ND comments.....and thanks for the nice response....Go Irish back to you

Now you’re are being way too kind. It was my entire fault. I’ve never made such a stupid post on FR. (Although, I’m sure there are some Freepers who would say I’ve done way worse. Ha ha.)

You were absolutely right for setting me straight and I feel better for it… almost as if I won’t have to tell about it in confession. Ha ha! That could be a risky thing ya know. A fist just might come ripping through the screen.

You’re not called the Fighting Irish for nothing.

Best FRegards,
Barnacle
