[history]
An analysis of the latest government monthly economic data suggests the unemployment situation is worse than the headlines portray.
August numbers from the Department of Labor found a 6.1 percent unemployment rate, or about 8.9 million people out of work. But in its analysis of other monthly data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. reported the real unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.

I've been out for a year. It's been a very hard grind trying to find a job.
I'm now trying to work as a consultant - it's my version of mowing a lawn.
"Mow a lawn" is not just the act of mowing, it's more the act of creating one's own position in life.

I think you've got it.

However, I would also add.... that we grant this right of...."creating one's own position in life" fully to our children, who might not just think of "their position" in merely economic terms....
.....and, I would add, that as adults, we try and see that our manner of "creating" leave a fully human "field" of opportunity for the future, for we are so much more than mere "economic" entities.

And, sometimes you die for telling the truth (Jesus did.). Yes, Jesus died because Judas told the truth - "There He is".

"One can only assume that your previous advice is the one that you would call the "national message".
Perhaps I misunderstood the original question. It seemed to me that it was a question from a parent who wanted her child to go to college, but he didn't want to. It sounded as though she was asking how to put pressure on him to make him go to college.
If that was not the case, never mind. LOL

oh you people are just so blind,,,,
If you can't give an intelligent response to my question, don't come back with some smart-ass response.
There are people who genuinely can't find work because of many reasons (mostly cuz GATT & NAFTA have seen to it that they've moved out of the country), and all you can do is throw out insults.
If you can't intelligently discuss the problem, don't bother replying.

I wasn't insulting you, I was agreeing with you in my own sarcastic way. I know many Americans are hurting, empathize with them, and wish to do whatever it takes to reverse this depression. Even to the point of harrassing my reps for some tarrif action and easing of business regs.
If you can't intelligently discuss the problem, don't bother replying.
Nah. If I have worry about sounding intelligent, I'll never get a word out edgewise.
