Dixie Chicks to break with country scene

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.

"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."

Springsteen's remarks got him a place in the chick's concert Top of the World tour--they play Born in the USA as an opener.

Country music is all about focus groups, looking the part, winning awards, and being liked. Isn't it?

Dixie Chicks to break with country scene

Then dears, you really must try to get another name. I mean Dixie Chicks is way too redneck for your new found sophistication.

May I suggest some alternatives:

Traitor Chicks.

Saddam's Chicks.

Burka Chicks,

The French Wh...

I knew they really weren't country when they did the special with James Taylor. Natalie could not have made a bigger deal about how he was her idol, she played him all the time when she was a child, etc., etc. It was easy to tell it was just a matter of time before they crossed over--to the dark side!

Rock 'n Roll, eh? Can drug busts and girl-kissing be far behind?

He's shown himself to be a liberal twit in the past, claiming he didn't like Reagan, etc.....

Did Merle Haggard know that Natalie made those comments overseas?

I'd guess not. I saw Merle Haggard on a FoxNews interview about this a few weeks ago, and he seemed very ill-informed about world events. You could tell he had heard snippets of things on the news, but then he completely misinterpreted or misunderstood them.

Too late. I understand they're already working on a concept album involving their renditions of selected Led Zeppelin classics. Rumor has it Natalie will do an acoustical version of The Lemon Song.

Marty will do a salute to Jimmy Page with her violin bow & her sister whats-her-name will do Moby Dick on the back of her mandolin.

I was very disappointed to hear that Springsteen had something nice to say about these pieces of work.

Apparently, Springsteen has been calling for Bush's impeachment at his recent concerts.

They seem to have forgotten that they won two of those Grammys in the Country category and the third for Best New Artist. The implications don't sound that promising to me, if R&R awards are what they're after.

Amen! As strongly as I disagree with their expressed opinion, let's try to remember, these girls are musicians, not political movers and shakers. As nice as it is to see patriotism come back in fashion, that was my concept of what our country is all about, free expression. They are free to say stupid things and I am free to think they are political idiots, but they are good musicians, and I will keep listening to them.

"Anyone, know what Merle said?"

"That lead singer, Natalie, she's not entirely as stupid as she looks, and she's not as fat as she once was..."

That's it for the Boss - not listening to any of his music from now on. He can't hold a candle to The Man in Black.
