Refinery Expert Disputes .50 Caliber Rifle Threat

The Violence Policy Center (VPC) has assembled inaccurate statistics and false "facts" regarding the threat to Homeland Security posed by .50 caliber rifles. Their efforts failed to convince California state lawmakers this year, and their much touted .50 caliber state-wide ban was defeated, stalled in committee.

Recently, VPC has presented their fake studies to those California counties with the greatest proliferation of oil refineries, Los Angeles and Contra Costa, claiming snipers equipped with .50 caliber rifles pose a serious threat to such institutions from nearby "rolling" hills.

While Los Angeles county has formed it's own fact-finding body to determine the truth (and has so far rejected the proposal), the Contra Costa County Supervisors have accepted VPC's claims without question, despite vigorous and credible testimony from local constituents, both expert and layman alike. On August 13, they voted to draft an ordinance banning the sale of .50 caliber rifles in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Since then, NRA/CRPA has determined that there are ZERO dealers of .50 caliber rifles within this area! See http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/local/coco/50/

Now, a local oil refinery expert who has WORKED FOR ALL FIVE OIL REFINERIES in the San Francisco bay Area, outraged by these ridiculous VPC claims, helps sets the record straight by freely offering a thoughtful, preliminary analysis titled...

CONSEQUENCES OF SHOOTING HIGH-POWER BULLETS INTO AN OIL REFINERY

Needless to say, this expert's conclusions do not agree with that of the Violence Policy Center. Available at http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/local/coco/50/refineryxpert.shtml

Thanks for the post.

I always questioned the effect of an incendiary round into a tank above the liquid level.

Sounds like the frangible roof simply gives way leading, in the worse case, to a controllable fire on the surface of the liquid. Lots of smoke until CO2 or halon is introduced into the top of the tank.

Criminals are a cheapskate lot and .50 cals require dedicated funding. The anti-gunners are looking for soft (low membership for high-priced representation) targets as opposed to taking the NRA on directly. In reality the people owning the vast majority of these rifles are regarded as very responsible citizens. Mr. Barrett himself quietly donates a portion of his profits to worthy charities. But that's not regarded as newsworthy. For more info on this hobby click http://www.fcsa.org/

Hah, a .50 cal wouldn't keep a terrorist safe in North Richmond.

Looks like the "gun stupids" are at it again.

Worried about .50 cals when the usual terrorist M.O. is an explosive laden vehicle rammed into a facility with the intent of meeting allah and his 70-odd virgin goats. All this smoke and farting while Leftist symps and Leftist "elected" Demoncrats display their treasonous attitudes by attacking the conduct of Iraqi occupation while warriors serve in freedoms cause.

And, to think, Kalifornia commies pitch and whine about A.S.'s daddy being a NAZI party member 60 years ago, while a sitting senator-Demoncrat, Robert Byrd- was an actual Kluxer less than that time ago. While A.S.'s daddy hasn't been proved to have killed a single Jew, Byrd's buddies most likely lynched a Black man or two. While many Germans joined the NAZI party to stay employed, or be dismissed and probably rounded up as enemies of the State, Byrd joined the Invisible Empire of his own free will.

What ideology is really the harbor of the sick and perverse?

Demoncrats.

A 50 caliber armor piercing round can penetrate most oilfield equipment and a lucky/fortunate shot has to be viewed as a threat. After working in the industry for 15 yrs I can attest to the fact that this is certanily possible.

An above ground pipeline meter run around Canutillo N.M was shot and the bullet did not completely penetrate the pipe but it caused the line to have to be shut down for repairs. The bullet was a 30.06 steel jacketed bullet. The wall thickness of pipe varies and for obvious reasons when the pipe rises above ground the pipe is much thicker in meter runs to allow for idiots with a gun. Oilfield piping is a not so secure situation. Internal corrosion and widely fluxuating temperatures and pressure greatly affect its integrity! You had better take all precautions when dealing with these possibilities; this situation is an un-rully beast and totally un-forgiving!
