TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 9/21/03 (CA GOVERNOR'S RACE)

TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 9/21/03 (CA GOVERNOR'S RACE)

Please post local, regional, national news and views on Tom McClintock. This is a news and info thread. The following guidelines for posting are per DoughtyOne's most excellent suggestion.

McClintock Camp - Supporters or Defenders

Please post positive articles about Tom's policies and leave the Schwarzenegger bashing to the Democrats.

Schwarzenegger Camp - Supporters or Defenders

The call for McClintock to withdraw right now, or the tactic of calling him and his followers names for not doing so, is not productive and isn't good for the party.

Please save the Rino Arnold/Unelectable Tom rants for other threads.

"Dear Mr. Reagan, it should be obvious to you now that you can never be elected governor. Please put aside your ego, for the good of our party, and get behind the one man who is moderate enough to appeal to California voters - - San Francisco Mayor George Christopher."

What is your opinion as to WHO should pull out of the race.. Arnold or Tom? I think if conservatives commit to one or the other we can put California in the "R" column...

Good morning everyone. Computer is a little hobbled this morning so I can't get to the ping list. Yesterday's big news was there is some new poll results being released. It is NOT the Field Poll. It is the PPI poll. Leaked results indicate that Tom has gone from 5% to 14% - which means he has tripled. Imagine if he does the same on other polls! His convention speech is now available for viewing at www.tommcclintock.com.

I don't think we have enough data yet to make that determination. RNC should be commissioning some independent polls - but I don't think they want to give us a choice. We are supposed to buy in to the "they know what's best for us" philosophy.

Maybe I'm blind, but I couldn't seem to find a link to it over there. I tried the "speeches" link but those were the old ones. Help!

I agree with you on that... but it is getting very close the wire... Personally I would really like to see Tom win this.. but I am also a realist...and so far I don't see enough folks waving his banner... It is getting close to crunch time.. and the McClintock folks need to start rallying or I might have to go with 2nd choice Arnold... for now I would really like to see Tom's numbers keep going up....

McClintock talk draws 350 loyal Republicans
Voters, not worried that he may split the vote, stand by principles rather than desire to win.

CORONA DEL MAR – Tom McClintock found a roomful of true believers at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club on Saturday – voters so dedicated to the causes of the Republican recall candidate that they brush aside concerns that he'll split the vote with fellow Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger and allow Democrat Cruz Bustamante to win.

"I don't know how you can be a social liberal and a fiscal conservative," said Laguna Niguel civil engineer Larry Wlezien, complaining that more social programs mean more taxes. "They're mutually exclusive. To me, Schwarzenegger is the spoiler. He's the one who's going to split the vote."

McClintock, a longtime state legislator from Thousand Oaks, has paid the cost for standing by his beliefs before, such as when he and a handful of others opposed the budgets of then-Gov. Pete Wilson, a fellow Republican, in the 1990s - and saw the leadership appointments and campaign assistance from GOP chiefs evaporate.

Agreed....

RNC should be commissioning some independent polls - but I don't think they want to give us a choice.

I disagree.. I think the RNC/President Bush is correct in taking a "Let's wait and see attitude"... giving Tom time to make his case to the people....

We are supposed to buy in to the "they know what's best for us" philosophy.

.. I hope you really don't believe that rhetoric...

..... I would support doing so if this race was not so close..... For now I am still pulling for Tom....

It's on a video/audio clip - not text. So it should be under TV/Radio appearances.

The McClintock supporters are pretty cohesive - it's driving the CA RNC faction nuts. They have bent over backwards to make sure that Tom doesn't get support. The RNC wants to abandon some of it's key plants but doesn't have the guts to say it. Similar thing is going on in AZ right now.

The "Republican party of CA" is NOT the RNC... CA Republican Party is just 1/50th of the RNC...... President Bush Calls the shots for the RNC period... and he is on the right track..... I call on ALL Tom McClintock supporters to get out there and get LOUD... that is the way to swing the Republican party of CA in the RIGHT direction...

I find it troubling that 46% of FREEPERS who responded to the "FREEPER POLL" are standing behind Arnold TODAY ... we should ALL be pulling for Tom to get his Poll numbers UP.. and if the numbers don't add up than we can go with the #2 choice to WIN.....

Question ...

Now that we're coming down to the final two weeks of campaigning/debating (barring Democrat obstructionism), who do you now support for Governor of California?

McClintock
306 votes - 48%

Schwarzenegger
291 votes - 46%

Other
11 votes - 1%

Undecided
22 votes - 3%

630 votes total; you voted "McClintock "

I think the Tom supporters are a little more independent than the Arnold supporters and in fact may have abandoned this forum because of all the crap that has been going on.

Smart enough to know when they are wasting their time.

By the way, did you see the post about Arnold supporters crashing the Tom McClintock rally. Arnold's camp says they don't know anything about it and I believe them. Yesterday, one of our freepers posted a call to protest the McClintock rally and I guess it worked.
