That is a good point. The last candidate floated by the Republican primary system was the conservative Simon. I'd say that Arnold stands little chance of surviving the primary if he wins the governorship.

Absolutely. The 17th Amendment gutted the rights of states, but more importantly it stripped the people of their political power and put it into the hands of national political parties.

The 16th Amendment is exactly what the framers sought to avoid. The 16th Amendment has given the federal government nearly unbridled power over the people, and has been abused as a tool to override the Bill of Rights.

Polls based on 1000 respondents do not accurately predict the votes of 100,000 people.

Actually they do, provided the 1,000 is a statistically sound random sample of the larger population.

1,000/100,000 is a reasonable sample/population ratio.

lol! He sounded just like what he is...a loser who can't or won't accept that he's losing. I'm an honest man. If he sounded good I'd say so. He sounded petty, insignificant, and generally just made a fool of himself. But don't take my word for it...see it for yourself. When you do..take note of how he chose to repeat his tired old lines he's bantered about many times before. Take note also on how he refused to shut up when the host (Cusick?) attempted to put an end to his tirade. He didn't look good. He didn't sound good. I've seen McClintock, in a race like this in a Democratic state he does not have a chance. The numbers speak for themselves. So, you see, you don't have the option of voting for "the right person". If that's what McClintock is to you.

I'm simply saying that if the choice is someone like Arnold or any Democrat I say the Republican is the best bet.

Your "vitrol" comment is more garbage. The only horse I have in this race is the clout the gov. of CA has in the upcoming presidential election. I don't dislike McClintock, I never met him. I've seen him on TV and he comes of badly. He is not telegenic and is not someone likeable.

I have met Arnold, many years ago. He is a very savvy guy and might surprise you if elected. Unlike any Democrat that gets elected. And Bustamente will get elected if McClintock stays in the race. You might not like that but that's the way it is. To consider otherwise is just foolish.

Are the polls in question double-blind and adjusted for every sort of bias imaginable? If not, then they are not accurate predictors, according to the philosophical underpinnings of polling (which are not valid in the first place). Then you have the California bias, where the late voters trend conservative. So even if the polls were accurate at that point in time, they still don't augur well for the voting reality.

but the PRI poll. Last PRI poll was Mclintock
at 5 now he is at 14% so it confirms
he is moving up.

PRI has been his worst poll.

Last Field Poll by the way had McClintock
at 13% not 9%.

I hate the Kennedys as much as anyone. But I prefer them over the bustamante administration anyday.

I do understand.

However, it's not always a question of principle. Sometimes it's more a question of tactics.

Perhaps losing less is better than losing more. Is a modicum fiscal conservatism worth preserving now, while keeping the fight alive -- or would you rather lose the fiscal fight and have your agenda totally squashed.

Perhaps, through exposing the folly of both the left and the center right, the "far right" could win in the long run. And with a center right R in office opens the door for the R views to be aired.

Dear Freepers........ WE LIVE IN CALIFORNIA....! The most lopsided state in the union when it comes to checks and balances.

We need anybody with an (R) next to their names as apposed to a (Duh).

Maybe Arnold does not meet every requirement of the hard right. But what is wrong with that. We should be a balanced group amongst our fellow party members.

If we would all just relax on the things that should not matter such as issues about what two consenting adults do in their homes..... We lose so many votes due to this rigid nature of ours.

We need to get a little inroad and show we can turn this around. If Arnold is the man then we must support him and guide him with our voices.

Think about it. Arnold has thrown himself into a fire for some of our causes. In Hollywood he is now tredding the line of hatred by his community for going against the grain. His own PR firm is feeling the heat from Hollywood heavyweights and I know.I work in this sector. Its nasty and Arnold is fighting the fight.

I hope he can reach out to some middle of the road Libs and bring change to their thinking.

I love Toms beliefs and convictions. But if those number do not get any higher soon we must GET REAL. Combined we take this election with ease.

Lets not blow it on stubborn actions.......Thats how we got in this mess in the first place with Mr. Simon....
