54: No on 54 Union Thugs Assault Pro-54 Females at Davis/Gore Rally, Los Angeles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNION THUGS SAVAGELY ATTACK COLLEGE KIDS AT A GRAY DAVIS SPEECH FOR SUPPORTING PROP 54, PROP 54 CAMPAIGN CHAIR WARD CONNERLY DECLARES IT AN ‘OUTRAGE’

SACRAMENTO, CALIF.--Ward Connerly, chairman of the Yes on Proposition 54 campaign, angrily denounced the savage attack several men from an unidentified union and carrying “No on Prop 54” signs unleashed on six college students.

The students, all members of the California College Republicans and in their early 20s, were peacefully protesting at a voter-registration rally held in south Los Angeles and featuring Governor Gray Davis and former Vice President Al Gore. The students stood respectfully outside and carried “Yes on Prop 54” signs.

They were approached by a gang of men, all wearing union shirts and carrying “No on Prop 54” signs, who began verbally harassing them and physically intimidating them by holding their signs over those of the students, standing threateningly close and following them when the students tried to retreat to a safe distance. They also shouted down the students with racial slurs and called one of the female students a “white-washed Mexican.”

Then about 15 of the “No on 54” thugs surrounded two girls, hit them in the face and pulled their hair. Another student who tried to rescue the girls got punched in the back. Finally, all of the students managed to escape to their car and drive away, all the while being followed and yelled at by their bullying attackers. Representatives of the media, including the Los Angeles Times, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN were present, but it’s unclear how much of the attack they witnessed.

“I cannot express enough my disgust and contempt for brutes who express their political beliefs by beating up on anyone, especially young females,” said Mr. Connerly. “My sympathies go out to the students who had to endure this outrage. They are extremely courageous people who stand up and declare their beliefs, even at risk of bodily harm. I’m proud they stand among the supporters of Prop 54.”

Prop 54 will bar the state and all local California governments from classifying individuals by race in the areas of public education, employment, contracting and most other government operations. Reasonable exemptions exist for medical research subjects and patients, racial classifications required by federal law or for federal funds and certain activities of law enforcement. The state legislature, by a two-thirds vote and with the governor’s approval, can vote to exempt any other reasonable area. Also, the Department of Fair Housing and Employment will receive a 10-year sun-setting exemption.

Members of the media wishing for more information on the attack or who want to get in touch with any of the students can do so by contacting the Yes on Prop 54 office. For more information on Prop 54, please go to www.racialprivacy.org.

River rat -- I'm on the same page with you. I see it clearly too.

I'm seeing a wild parallel in history happening. Even before MLK came on the scene. Blacks were marching to be treating equally. They were fighting similar "union" thugs in the south. Thugs who would beat them for their showing up at places, or opening their mouths to disagree with the "established" leadership.

It's here and now happening again. Same scenario -- and what were these protestors for? An initiative to ban government institutional use and practice of racism.

I think it means the perps need to be positively ID'd by name. Anyone can wear a union shirt. But who has the most to gain by this fracas at a Davis/Gore event?

I learned that one already. If you walk around with a baseball bat, there's going to be trouble. A study shaleleegh, or walking stick is much better. :) And of course, lessons in the use of a bow, help tremendously! Bruce Lee!! :)

I'd make that the second step. The first step would be to arm yourself. Firearm would work best but given it's a panty waste, gunphobic state, a baseball bat will probably have to suffice.

3-cell Maglight, Mace, Karate - all useful and a little less obvious. But I agree, a firearm is the best defense. Watch the thugs run. Unfortunately, in California, it isn't widely accepted, since it takes the advantage away from the leftist thugs.

While channel surfing here in L.A. last night, I saw a story about this Davis-Gore rally. While the newscaster was spouting the biased talking points ("Al Gore knows about election grabbing" echoing his speech against the Recall) there was a quick clip of an organized, red-shirted goon with a No on Recall sign pushing around what I think was a Latino guy with a Yes on 54 sign. I think they were both Latinos, actually, belying the notion that the Latino electorate is a homogenous monolith.

Can't recall the station, unfortunately. Might have been UPN 13. The disconnect between the script and not only Historical realitiy but also the pics onscreen was as vivid as anything I've seen.

It was as if a rebel cameraman and editor had deliberately sabotaged the newscensors.

Certainly not union members. I think you have posed a simple but excellent question. Who does gain from something so out in the open?

Union thugs always go after FReepers. Remember the incident in Philly a couple of years ago?

We remember. After that incident, I was at an anti-Gore rally in Philly protesting the 2000 election mess. From just the people I knew, we had more firepower in the crowd than the average SWAT entry team. We had no harassment whatsoever.

Like a designated driver we need to assign someone to be designated documentor for everything we do. And I am not talking huge lights and cameras but some that is more subtle. Until we get these guys on video then we will lose. If we can infiltrate their ranks... ( which will take some big cojones) and get on tape them conspiring to intimidate then we have them on federal constitutional violations.

Is there any particular problem with the bat? How about pepper spray?

The bat will get you problems from the police.

The telescoping steel baton , either16 inch ($15 on sale), or 26 inch can be held descretely in your pocket collapsed, eliciting no comment, until you need it (at which point a quick snap of the wrist extends it to full length). It is a great fashion accessory that should be part of every freeper's wardrobe

Just keep in mind that it can be considered a lethal weapon (as would be the bat) and aim for arms and knees and avoid the head.

Maybe it's time to start hiring security when we demonstrate

Maybe it's time for the United States Attorney for Los Angeles to get off his dead ass and conduct a real civil rights investigation. The First Amendment rights of these kids were brutally violated - so where's the same government that's currently outraged by the mere possibility that some people won't punch their voting cards all the way through?

We had a good thing going when I was up at Berkeley.

I suffer mostly from snobbery against the undergrads now. Plus they immediately start begging for tips on how to get into law school, as if I were on the admissions committee or something.

Actually Bush does want to pass a bill that the unions don't like that would allow business owners the flexibility to give comp time instead of overtime pay--something I think is horse hockey, that should be an option left up to the worker--employers will opt for comp time or "vacation time" which is basically an IOU for working your butt off that you have to arrange to use sometime in the far future when the company can afford to let you go for a few days, least ways that is my understanding, so that may not be entirely accurate

Anyway, finding the source of a problem--especially union can be as simple as finding their website (some maintain websites with daily updates of problems/concerns) Some unions have union halls and the address is prominently posted on their websites ;-) Also networking with anti union "union workers" can help. I don't know how it is there, but here if you can find a laid off aircraft worker you have found an anti union ally.

I was lucky I didn't have to go far to find who I was looking for so other than the lazy way of hunting stuff up,
Thats about all I can offer. Hope its a start..:)
