Bear Breaks into NJ Home Twice (was he looking for beer?)
WPVI-TV/DT Philadelphia ^ | 9.18.03

VERNON, NJ-September 18, 2003 — Vernon police fatally shoot a black bear after it twice broke into the basement of a township home this week.

The three-year-old female bear first entered the home early Tuesday by breaking a glass door. A neighbor saw what happened and notified the home's owner, Rosemary DeLorenzo, who fled with her two children. The neighbor then scared the bear off with an air horn and the family returned home.

But the 181-pound bear returned several hours later when DeLorenzo was home alone, and she called police. The bear left when the officers arrived and then wandered around the neighborhood until it was shot in the chest by an unidentified officer.

No one was hurt in either instance. And DeLorenzo declined to comment on the matter.

Was the officer on a covert operation?

Pretty wild! Why did they think he was looking for beer?

I can just picture a bear sitting in a guy's easy chair watching TV while sucking on some beers that he got from the fridge.

Did they have bacon in the fridge? Had a bear open the freezer door of my porch fridge in BC once (true story) to get at the bacon. He responded well to the sound of a rifle, and never came back.

No doubt, I'd using something with more bark than an airhorn. I don't want to kill a bear just for the sake of killing it, but he's going to talk to me and my Super Redhawk .44 Mag if he's breaking into my house (I have the same policy toward human burglars).

Uh-uh. This is the tried-and-true "Bear Medicine".

When .348 Win speaks, Br'er Bear listens.

If this was in Chicago, I would have worried. The Bears here can't afford to lose any more players.

They were wrong. The bear was still looking for her porridge and bed.

No doubt this bear has been fed by humans who thought it was "neat" to feed a bear. Eventually it associated the human's houses with food. Once the bear does this you have no choice but to kill it.

Whats up American mother ? Long time no hear! We were discussing the approach to StBarts last....? Well I got to Innsbruck AUSTRIA(LOWI) recently kinda neat approach. Field elev approx 2000 with 13500 + ft mountains in a 4-5mile wide horseshoeish deal. Fun stuff, that nifty Honeywell avionics and automation was put to real good use Ill tell ya:) Somehow Aspen still seems like it rates higher on the pucker chart

Hey there! Good to hear from you. Just the usual up around here, shepherding children into the new school year and riding horses . . .

My personal pucker factor best is Falwell at Lynchburg VA, although the old Beech Mountain (Banner Elk) NC strip comes close (I understand it's gone private and has been renamed Elk River). I hate mountains a whole lot worse than a "low and slow" over the ocean!
