How is that tower less functional because of it's color??

Why would it be offensive to the local people, the vast majority of whom likely have no clue what it signifies??

Obviously you have never done a day on hostile ground where ANY morale boost is welcome, and I can guarantee that any of the Active, Reserve or National Guard troops from Tennessee (who aren't Vandy fans) who pass that way will get a smile out of it.

Smiles are probably hard to come by over there.

Have you considered surgery to have that stick removed??

No, I don't know.

Maybe the all the SEC schools can find a water tower to stake out as 'their own'. I think the Alabama National Guard is heavily represented in Irag.

All true Vol fans carry orange and white paint at all times for just such an occasion.

big orange beacon of hillbilly light

Okay, I'm from the midwest and now live in the northwest; but, I would have thought that the term "hillbilly" to be somewhat insulting. Is it a term of endearment to Southerners? (I'm honestly curious.)

Maybe he was just sharing with the Iraqi people the time-honored southern tradition of painting over public structures to show the world what they thought.

LOL! Somebody apologized to his girlfriend on an overpass on my commute route a few years ago. I can't remember the girl's name, but the rest of the message was, "I'm Sorry!"

This is REALLY cool. I'm not a Vols fan but it would make me feel good to see this if I was over there so far from home.

It's "Americana".

This shows complete lack of discipline and sensibility to local sentiment. Par for the course with that crew.

Hey bud, stick it where the sun don't shine.

That was really nice of those Boys from Tennessee to paint the tower Longhorn Orange in honor of the University of Texas!

Well, we can call each other hillbillies but outsiders calling us that will get beaten. :)

Maybe the Alabama Guard can stake out one. One side, Crimson and White, the other side, Orange and Blue. Like it used to be when we played in B'ham.

And lets face it....Knoxville (Home of the Vols) is hard on the foothills of the Smokeys and, by God, chock full of hillbillies.

Liz...you can call us anything but late for supper.

The Atlanta Baseball team before the Braves were the Crackers. (and the Negro League team was the Atlanta Black Crackers)

Like gangsta graffiti? Now you're getting the statement this kind of crap makes to the locals.

Yeah, it’s completely insensitive.

Everybody knows the long-standing grudge that local Iraqis have against the University of Tennessee.

They hate The Vols almost as much as they hate the Jews.

The USMC and Brits have secured their areas completely, and the Army just can't seem to get the job done. Gee, I wonder why?

WRONG! The USMC packed up and went home when it started getting tough. Oh, the glamour time is over? We better go back home then. We'll leave the really dangerous work to the Army.

The Marines weren't given responsability for securing any of the dangerous areas, that was left to the Army to take care of. They stormed in blew up everything, and got everyone all pissed off, then ran away and left the Army to clean up the mess. The Brits were given responsability for securing the south, where anti-Saddam sentiment is highest, no big danger there.

You're talking out your fifth point of contact. Since it's obvious you don't know what the hell you're talking about, sit down and STFU.

What's got you so upset with the Army? Did ya' get kicked out of basic training for lingering and oggling a little too long in the showers?

Your anti-military sentiments would be welcome over at DU. Why don't you go back there?
