I'm in Georgia. Georgia has never experienced a hurricane, ever. Not true Laz! We got drenched from one that moved up from the gulf several years ago. Lots of flooding. Before your time, I believe. However, you are right in that we didn't get the devasting winds.

Georgia has had several. I rode David out in 1979 anchored in my sailboat. The eye came right over Hunter Army Airfield.

Hurricane Opal, October 1995; I don't think I'll ever forget it. It moved inland so fast that it was still at hurricane strength by time it got to I-20 headed northbound.

"I'm in Georgia. Georgia has never experienced a hurricane, ever." 1995 or 1996, Hurricane Opal, still cat 1 when the eye passed just east of Villa Rica, where I was living in then. Jim Cantore pulled an all nighter on WGST am 640 that night.
A wind gage at a local dirt strip airport recorded a 125 mph gust before it broke.

The worst I've seen here was some nasty weather from that storm of the century in the 90s. Our power was out for 3 days from the ice storms.
