His plan was to head west of Raleigh to stay with a friend from college. I'm thinking that phones may be down, can't get him on the cell either.

I don't think they were her ducks. They hang out in the town duck pond. which has now consumed most of the town. I'm curious as to why she felt the ducks needed rescuing?

They are now. I just woke up a bit ago and saw that UNC decided to close early today. And I noticed also that Duke Power repaired our power lines so well from the ice storm that my power is flickering in 25 mph gusts . . . great job :(

Maybe she rescues squirrels caught in trees as well.

I live in Smithfield. What's your sister's address or subdivision if you know it? I live in Waterford Oaks. (If you don't mind telling me.) Our power went out at 8:25 a.m. Bummer! I honestly didn't expect it go out so early....it's going to a very, very long day....and a very, very, VERY long night.

At 10:30 a.m., Dominion Virginia Power reports the following outages: 19,800 on the Peninsula;

You'll have to forgive me.

I've only been in virginia since this spring.

And while I realize I live on "The Shore" I've lived on the DelMarva Peninsula for so long that it has taken me until about 10 minutes ago to realize that when a reference such as yours says "the Peninsula" it's referring to something entirely different than what I am used to.

Now if I could only figure out what area it refers to????

The power in wind increases cubicly with the velocity not to the square.

I hope your hurricane doesn't blow any addition goofballs our way.

The trees you mentioned are indeed worrisome.

Prayers to all the folks in the range of Isabel's influence.

I talked with someone on their cell in Raleigh about 20 minutes ago. I don't think Raleigh is getting the worst of the storm though. Someone told me the rain there was falling at a 45 degree angle and the power is flickering. He should be fine in Raleigh though.

We had such severe flooding 2 weeks ago and then a heep of rain last friday and saturday - I'm seriously worried about the trees.

Yea, rain... Don't forget Monday. We had lots of rain Monday. The trees... I'm worried about them too.
